Sweaty Upper Lip

As much as we love summer, the season comes with one of our greatest physical embarrassments, otherwise known as the sweaty upper lip. Try as we might to be leisurely, avoiding working up a sweat as you amble from home to work to play is nearly impossible some days. Despite our best efforts we still find a thin sheen works itself up more often than is comfortable congealing with our makeup to form a kind of gritty urban beauty nightmare. Clearly we aren't the only one in our community worried about these issues as Ma Petite Chou has been fielding questions about water proof eyeliner, SheFinds is focused on waterproof foundation and other stay cool and dry techniques, Makeup and Beauty Blog's face of the day includes Chanel's waterproof Oasis eyeshadow quad, and Sugarshock is fixating on Cargo's Melt Proof collection. Naturally beauty marketers are aware that summer makeup is a near obsession for women and provide us with ample opportunities to lay down cash for products that may or may not work. Our take? Sure we love a lot of the products featured but some days we simply want to give up and go totally bare.

Less Is More For Alison Raffaele

Community member Sugarshock knows that sometimes its what is not in a product that is more important. We are longtime fans of Alison Raffaele on Coutorture so we were pleased to learn from Sugarshock that her line has been revamped to be entirely talc and paraben-free. With her spiffy new packaging this makes Alison Raffaele more than worth a second look. We love her mineral makeup in particular but Sugarshock clued us into the multi-use Transparent Finishing Powder. Your editor has relatively dry skin so it is only in the summer months that we even consider powder. Thus we aren't normally inclined to buy it very often. But Raffaele's powder doubles as a dry shampoo to sop up hair grease too making it an extremely tempting purchase. We love it when products multitask. Below is a selection of our favorite products from the line including Allison Raffaele Mineral Foundation Powder and Alison Raffaele Transparent Finish To Go Refillable Dispensing Brush

Sugarshock Shoutout: Butter Me Up

Image of Korres Body Butter TrioThe last traces of winter are finally disappearing. April showers have occurred, May flowers should presumably follow. But why does our skin still feel so parched? This question seems to still be on the mind of community partner Sugarshock who has developed a yen for Korres Body Butters. We love the natural beauty line from Greece too but we admit to being shocked to discover the market for body bodies was so saturated. We aren't sure if there is a pun there or not but good lord there are hundreds of options to choose from when looking for deep skin moisturizing. We found options from the $1.99 Palmer Olive Butter Formula to the $55 Kai Body Butter in our search. And of course if you want to test out Sugarshock's suggestion we have a trio of Korres butters so you can give them a test run. Otherwise we suggest a big glass of water and dunking yourself in olive oil.

Sugarshock Shoutout: Scent of A Baby

Demeter Fragrance Library Baby Powder ScentWe have always personally loved the smell of baby powder. So it isn't a big surprise to us when Sugarshock points out that baby powder influenced fragrances are on the rise. Now that the market is saturated with florals something a bit more powdery still appeals to the less sophisticated scent consumer without scaring them. There are quite a few scents we like in particular Demeter Fragrance Library Baby Powder and i Profumi di Firenze Talco Delicato

Image of Johnson's Baby CologneWe however are a little more unnerved that while there are people out there who want to smell like babies there are others who want babies to smell like adults. Johnson's Baby Cologne seems like a pretty disturbing idea to us. We found a commercial for it on Youtube that is just shudder worthy. It apparently has a gentle, fresh fragrance with a pleasant combination of floral and citrus hints. And its now more refreshing than ever! Proving that the grass really is always greener on the other side. We live in a world in which adults prefer to smell like talcum powder while insuring their babies to have a nice citrus scent.
