Sweaty Upper Lip

As much as we love summer, the season comes with one of our greatest physical embarrassments, otherwise known as the sweaty upper lip. Try as we might to be leisurely, avoiding working up a sweat as you amble from home to work to play is nearly impossible some days. Despite our best efforts we still find a thin sheen works itself up more often than is comfortable congealing with our makeup to form a kind of gritty urban beauty nightmare. Clearly we aren't the only one in our community worried about these issues as Ma Petite Chou has been fielding questions about water proof eyeliner, SheFinds is focused on waterproof foundation and other stay cool and dry techniques, Makeup and Beauty Blog's face of the day includes Chanel's waterproof Oasis eyeshadow quad, and Sugarshock is fixating on Cargo's Melt Proof collection. Naturally beauty marketers are aware that summer makeup is a near obsession for women and provide us with ample opportunities to lay down cash for products that may or may not work. Our take? Sure we love a lot of the products featured but some days we simply want to give up and go totally bare.

DVF X Bloggers

The streetwear symbol for collaboration involves combining two names with an "x" as a signifier that two brands joined forces for a creative project. Often it is the collaborations that bring out the best from each side, highlighting the strengths of the players while creating something that is greater than the sum of its parts. It is the "x" factor of unique teams coming together to do something great. It is this spirit of collaboration that inspired us to host a photo shoot with iconic womenswear line Diane Von Furstenberg and the Coutorture community.

Thus it seems fitting that we call the Coutorture community's collaborative photoshoot with Diane Von Furstenberg DVF x Bloggers. After an agonizing process of slimming the potential list of collaborating blogs to ten (though we shot eleven as our intern Maleeha The Shoptometrist got in on the fun) we brought Shopalicious, Fops and Dandies, The Shoptometrist, See Pretty Things, Clothes-Pin, Eyeshadow Government, The Daily Obsession, SheFinds, The Fashion Bomb, The ShoeBlog, and Fashion Indie.

Ten bloggers arrived at Diane Von Furstenberg's 14th Street Meatpacking District store to discover a full crew of professional photographers, models, makeup artists, hair stylists, sales women, publicists, creative directors, and a few interactive agency types from Morpheus Media (the collaboration may have been our idea but Morpheus helped bring it to fruition) ready to help the bloggers play.

And play we did as bloggers dressed, styled, and modeled (and ate and drank) to their hearts content. Every blogger looked fabulous in the diverse number of outfits their educated fashion minds gravitated towards. It was a true testament to the project's aim, to bring the personality of the bloggers to DVF and the integrity (and, we must say, wearability) of the brand to the bloggers.

We hope you will enjoy the results and take the time to peruse the many galleries, write ups, links and Shopstyle Spreads we will be posting through out the next few days to help celebrate this phenomenal creative collaboration.

SheFinds X DVF

We noticed the dress when we first walked in and SheFinds, being the fashion savvy gal she is, picked it up straight away. The DVF Extravaganza Dress in Guava and Canary is 100% silk organza and one hell of a head-turner. Paired with gold sandals or stacked platforms, this could easily be the summer dress you live in during those hot months. SheFinds obviously loved wearing the frock, she said, "I must have been the only one by that point in the evening to put on such a glamorous gown because everyone was ooohing and ahhhing. The photographer even came up to me between shots to tell me how beautiful I looked and that he couldn't wait to photograph me in the dress.". To which we say, you go girl. SheFinds is a fashion blog known for its accessible but informed voice which provides ecommerce spreads, celebrity commentary, trend reports, and news roundups. The gals who run the site are lovely which is probably why it's such a treat to read, these things do translate, and gorgeous frocks and photo shoots are just icing on the cake.

Poking Fun

We have always admired women that effortlessly combine prints. We can barely even stomach wearing one print let along pull off the styling miracle that strong print combinations require. But we were impressed by how easy SheFind's Guide to Wearing Multiple Prints was to follow. She has a few fantastic combinations we feel like we could pull off. We particularly liked her advice to choose similar prints in different sizes.

We combined a Dolce and Gabana Polka Dot Mini Skirt, C&C Dotted Jersey Tank, and Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Studded Cardigan. We threw in a Kate Spade 'Marceau - Malva' Soft Hobo that just happens to have a polka dot lining for fun and topped (bottomed?) it off with Marc Jacobs Collection Brushed Patent d'Orsay Pumps. Overall we think it looks pretty darn good. We guess combining prints isn't so hard after all!

Superflat

Bernardo Mojo FlatWe just can't resist making a Takashi Murakami joke. And no we aren't going to talk about Monogramouflage And The Brooklyn Museum exhibit. The superflat we want to talk about today is super flat sandals. And while this might be a commentary on the shallow emptiness of Japanese, errrr wait, American consumer culture, we are going to go there anyway. Fashionalities has a host of cheap and chic flat sandals and SheFinds is contemplating the boundaries between cheap flat plastic sandals and pricey flat designer sandals in a designer taste test. We predictably are obsessed with flat Bernardo Mojo Sandals as our choice for the ultimate superflat for the summer.
