Designer Erdem Moralioglu described this print as the landscape from a speeding train. It was this print, in part, that led to a critically acclaimed Fall 08 collection from Moralioglu, who started his own line back in 2006. The designer worked for Diane von Furstenburg before winning the Fashion Fringe award in 2005 and has been climbing his way up to the top since then. This collection was by far his most stunning, with beautifully tailored frocks and coats, trench coats adorned with lace or rosettes, and a print to top all of the florals we've seen for the past two seasons. This Fides Silk Gown, now available on Net-a-Porter, was on of our favorites. Elegant, long and lean, this frock could be worn by a woman of any age, and by day or evening, depending on the occasion. This collection was innovative and elegant and this dress is a shining example of just how talented is the designer. We'll keep an eye on just how fast these first pieces sell out, and bring you full spreads once more of the collection delivers.
This week we brought you 2009 trend reports on bows, velvet, and fringe and today we're breaking into print. Florals were the much talked about trend this season and it's only natural that they should stick around for Fall 08. Wintery florals were used in a variety of ways; they were magpie in one example and romantic in the next. There was not on way in which they were used but one uniform quality each variation consulted. That is, they were more complex and rich than the florals we saw for Spring. Like many trends the possibilities of what on can do with a floral print are endless. Florals also played into a few other major trends for Fall 08, namely, luxe and layering. The florals were luxe when paired with fur and given a high-shine finish, as with Michael Kors and Sari Gueron. They were also, overall, layered with color and texture (in both luxe and non-luxe instances), as we saw from Peter Som and Diane Von Furstenburg. Thanks to the range of ways in which floral was represented this Fall 08, this big-time Spring 08 trend still feels quite in bloom.

We've all the glorious exits from the DVF Resort show, which took place last week in Florence. Diane von Furstenburg's personal elegance might just be the perfect example of what it means to 'Resort' in the traditional sense of the word. To do so, from a style standpoint, the efficiency of one's suitcase is as important as the destination or the dinners. So her collection, being that she understands this process better than most, pivoted on the 'Petite Valise' and the ability of a DVF gal to go from airplane to beach to formal affair with one well-packed bag.
For this reason, the collection included many different nods to historical vacation wear. Namely, 1950's inspired swimwear, 1970's inspired silhouettes, and those easy, modern cotton shirt dresses from today's fashion world. In DVF's mind, the point is to evoke glamour without having to spend hours in the bathroom, and this thesis, necessarily, is without a relative era. This what we'd call timeless, in other words, and it goes without saying that DVF is woman who knows about such things.
