Trimápee Spring/Summer 2008/09

Mario-Luca Carlucci and Peter StrateasMario-Luca Carlucci and Peter Strateas' line Trimápee feels like the Australian Alexander Wang. Confusing, quirky, outlandish and dark their label certainly jives with their aim of promoting eclectic artistic thinking. Conceptual, thematic and expressive their work is not meant to be conventionally pretty despite being infinitely wearable to a certain kind of fashionista. They launched their debut collection in 2005 and are continuing strongly with the Trimapee SS 2008/09 collection.

Dark, moody, and deconstructed the collection channeled the early 90s grunge vibe that has been so strongly showing across global fashion weeks. Like Wang, the layering and styling is what made the collection appealing to us. This lifestyle collection will likely prove popular.

Christian Lacroix Fall 2008 Fashion Show Video

Geometry, strong colors, and boatloads of black made up the Christian Lacroix collection for the Fall 2008 runway. There were also some short ensembles that, thankfully, pushed forward the bell trend. Lacroix calls this aesthetic new minimalism but if these block colors and geometric prints are minimal we'd like to see what happens when the man gets crazy and goes all out! Take a look at the video and decide for yourself.

We also have impressive designer video interviews and original editorial spreads. May we cordially suggest perusing our selection? Boy, This Could Be Great

The Dolce&Gabbana Fall 08 runway revealed neatly tailored three-piece suits complete with silk scarf neckties and newsboy caps. The pants were tailored short and skinny, leaving those who fear the super wide leg trousers a flattering alternative. Just imagine those trousers with loafers and socks. It's the ultimate Annie Hall look only with that special brand of impudence only Dolce&Gabbana can quite conjure. It seems Fall 08 is getting its revenge on the babydoll dresses of yesteryear with either, dazzling ladylike luxury, or slim boyish tailoring. As for the latter we say, boys, have at it.

Marc Jacobs Was Only 15 Minutes Late

What shock and awe we experienced this evening when Marc Jacobs showed nearly on time! Our companion called her driver at 6:45 promising that this season it would be different. Her projection was that Marc would perversely start promptly on time. And while the show didn't go off exactly at 7, a mere quarter of an hour later Sonic Youth were playing and models were walking. Plus there was champagne at the tables. I guess Marc really is giving us a mea culpa! To which we say Ego te absolvo, in nomine Prada, Fendi et Salvatore Ferragamo, amen.Sure he isn't an Italian brand but hey it has a nice ring to it huh?
