Paris Fashion Week: Junya Watanabe Fall 2008 Recap

If you're a woman who likes high fashion and a cozy pair of long johns, this is your collection. Junya Watanabe showed, in his Fall 2008 collection, garments constructed (yes, that is the word) predominately from jersey. It's funny, because just the other day we were somewhat rolling our eyes at the highly marketable, over saturated textile that designers like Ella Moss, Splendid, and Rachel Pally use to cloth college-age girls across this sweatpants-loving country. Watanabe, proves, rather pointedly, that though a fabric may lend itself to simply patterns and mass production, doesn't mean it's inherently idiotic. In this collection the drapery and tailoring are what stand out, where you might look at the garment for a full two minutes (a lifetime these days) before sorting out just where the limbs are poking out in relation to where seams are placed. It's true magic, if you ask us, and magic is good for but one thing, namely, a lesson in perception.
