Friday Video Indulgence

We know what Friday's are like for most people, that is, at the end of the day you just need a little video indulgence. We live in an age where most of us are too busy to watch TV (not necessarily a bad thing, eh?) so the You Tube video reigns as the ultimate 15 minute chill out session. Now, every Friday, we're going to bring you our mix of fashion and veg-out videos. This week, still reeling from yesterday's 82 degree day, we've decided to turn on The Beach Boys. With one-piece swimsuits making a comeback this summer, we thought it only appropriate. Below that, the runway show from Lacoste for Spring 08, because if there ever were a low-key, beach-ready collection, this would be it. Finish off your midday break with a clip of swimwear from 1952, you'll see plenty of the references from modern designs, and, be gently reminded that 'the perfect silhouette' is a relative concept.

Fall 08 Trends Via Oscar de la Renta: Lean Tailoring

A thankful backlash from those baby-doll dresses and flowy tunics. This Fall 08 season saw long and lean at its finest. In our opinion, you don't have to be 5'11" and from Malawi, to fill out the tailoring. Be it, precisely tailored trousers or a figure skimming gown, the length (or we should say, height) of these garments should make you stand just a little bit taller. Oscar de la Renta, a sure supporter of a woman's good posture, showed a simple black gown which flared just enough to allow for confident stride, and a pant and blouse outfit, neatly tucked in, that is as elegant as it is smart. For extra-Oscar shows, New York saw these statuesque silhouettes from the likes of Lacoste, Badgley Mischka, Calvin Klein, and Nanette Lapore. Our gallery of the lean tailoring trend, below.

Sunny Day

Designers are banking that women's appetites for dresses remains strong for Fall 2008. Even if the economic climate isn't so sunny designers seem to believe bright day dresses will open their pocketbooks. And while we think it makes more sense to buy mix and match clothing for maximum versatility in a downturn sometimes we all need something to help get us through a sunny day. Nicole Miller, Lacoste, Erin Fetherston, Yigal Azrouel, Diesel and Marc by Marc all have their own version of the warmly colored day dress this season.

S/S 08 Trend Report: Lacoste

If you ask us, Lacoste is a line that's just better for S/S. It's the sort of wasp-y activity-based aesthetic that just merits sunshine and a tennis racket. At the end of the show, Lacoste busted out some seriously welcomed brights after a load of crisp white and black. Aside from a burst of color, the pieces that really made a difference were the 1920's style bathing suits (that New York girls will probably wear as jumpers this summer) and the super-loose sailor pants that just breezed down the runway.
