You know, goth references can be so darn pretty. This Paris Fashion Week, Riccardo Tisci showed his Fall 2008 RTW collection for Givenchy (much to the dismay of our French friends, we constantly find excuses to say this word) and boy, was it sweet. It was also undeniably sexy and slightly severe at the right moments (see black pencil thin leather pants and patent parkas). When those gorgeous ruffled silk blouses peek out from the strict tailoring of their respective trousers and jackets, it's difficult not to swoon. Our first impression, upon seeing the collection, inspired a slightly naughty daydream and so it came as no surprise that the collection manifested from Catholicism as it appears in South America. Only the Catholics could make us think random dirty thoughts on a Thursday afternoon in the loft/office. All funny business and religion aside, this collection is dark and romantic and satisfies our urges to look pretty but not darling, sharp, and just a little bit goth.

Aw, look, it's Givenchy for she & him. The Givenchy Haute Couture collection might have been inspired by Riccardo Tisci's upcoming trip to Peru, but he gave a little wink to the monochrome pink look he showed just last week for the Givenchy menswear collection. Worn together, it would make quite the fashion statement. Whether he intends Givenchians to wear his clothing in conjunction is beside the point, the trend is now established and we'll surely be seeing the color and the monochromatic look building as the season's shows move into ready to wear.
The Givenchy haute couture collection also included a fashion trend we thought we'd seen the last of. Namely, capes. Whether stitched closely to the body or worn lose, Tisci pulled this native look into his collection, despite it having been a trend over-saturated in the mainstream. If we see capes still present next fall in the shop windows and on young fashionistas, will it mean we can thank Givenchy haute couture? Probably not. It's more likely that the trends at street level just cycle through a bit slower, but the presence of them in this collection certainly doesn't matters.
Givenchy decided to up the anti with their version of the pink suit for Spring 09. Both Louis Vuitton and Calvin Klein tried their hands at the suiting game and, we think, lost. Sure the Calvin Klein version is a nearly-blinding orange-pink (Is that what color it is? We've been staring at it too long and we're starting to see white spots.) and the Louis Vuitton version, a mellowed but decisive attempt, but Givenchy, well, it doesn't get much more pink than that. There's something irresistible about this look. Perhaps it's the creamy skin and blank stare of the model who wore the suit, perhaps it's just that the color is just so damn vibrant that we're stunned into submission. Either way, you could say we're being beat over the head with two major Spring 09 trends. Namely, monochome outfits, and, well, pink. This decisiveness in menswear has us really excited...to see the womenswear shows. Below, men in pink. Get ready for it.
Teen Fashionista is indecisive about her desire for gladiator sandals. She knows she wants them but finding a perfect pair is eluding her. Sure she says she wants them to be brown and strappy but we think a few outrageous options will have her rethinking this update to her preppy wardrobe really fast. Heck a pair of pink Givenchy jellies might be just the thing to trick out staid Lacoste polos. Or maybe we are just projecting some wishful thinking onto our community member. Ehhhh either way we have some very fun and possibly stupid options for her to consider.

Clockwise From The 9pm:
Stuart Weitzman gold leather elasticized 'Gladiator' $153,
Bebe Sole of A Gladiator $83,
Jean Paul Gaultier Calf Leather Gladiator Sandal $1,425, Atia Sandal Delias $29,
Miu Miu Metallic Gladiator Sandal $395, Givenchy Pink Jelly Gladiator $165

When Fashion Week starts officially winding down, fashion publications often turn their gaze toward accessories. Six weeks of talking about clothing will do that to a person. Cue Yazbukey, the Paris borne accessories line by two sisters, Yaz and Emel, whose creations are singlehandedly bringing the brooch back. The two sisters have extensive experience in the industry, Emel with Christian Lacroix, Yaz with Martin Margiela and Givenchy. They are beautiful and wealthy (both, ahem, Ottoman Princesses) but their kooky aesthetic and Parisian attitude, keep them somewhat removed from the gossip rags in America. This Spring 08 Yazbukey's inspiration comes from quote "Either the rebel, the intellectual, or the playboy. Which one is going to cover her with diamonds and gifts?". Well, ladies, wouldn't we like to know. Brooches one might call 'pop pins' dominate the collection. Indeed, there's a certain type of fashionista, who owns a closet full of well made basics and trunks full of wild styling accessories, that would swoon for these pins.
