WWD reports this morning on the New York Fashion Week off-site schedule. Some key announcements to note, Alexander Wang will show at Roseland Ballroom (seats 1,500 guests) and Marc Jacobs will show at the Lexington Avenue Armory (no bribes necessary).
Valentino's menswear designer Ferruccio Pozzani will leave the house after the presentation of his Fall 2009 collection in Milan. That leaves both menswear and womenswear at Valentino open for new creative direction in 2009.
Rumors of Steven Alan and Opening Ceremony Uniqlo collaborations surfaced yesterday. Racked reports this morning that the official word will be dropped at the end of the month.
CEO of Wal-Mart, H. Lee Scott, spoke about consumer spending habits at the National Retail Federation's 98th Convention. Scott tackles sustainability, among other weighted topics.
Donatella Versace showed her Spring 2009 Versace collection in Beijing, China yesterday--first seen this season at Milan Fashion Week, the collection was re-shown with Chinese models and an identical stage. Versace arranged the show, in part, as a vehicle for humanitarian work. To see images from the fashion show, click here.
It has been rumored that Mike & Chris is going out of business. A canceled sample sale started the snowball of gossip via Racked's infamous tipline.
Wal-Mart and Urban Outfitters both made it out of the third quarter with overall revenue growth. Their success can be attributed to a combination of low price points and well-timed advertising campaigns.
...and the Commes des Garcon madness ensued. WWD takes us through the adventure play by play and, Network Partner, ShinyStyle, has tug of war videos and photo galleries.
And here we go around the blogosphere again for another look at what products, designers, and pressing questions are captivating the hearts and minds of our beloved community.
Wardrobe Oxygen made us giggle, cheer, and even tear up a little as she turned one of fashion's favorite catch phrases "make it work" on its head. You see sometimes you just should't make a garment work. And in the immortal words of a certain lawyer named Elle Woods, if the fabric won't work with you don't work with it!
Spork Fashion has a really cute butt! No really, she is testing out Levi's Totally Sliming Jeans which are amazingly only $20 at Wal-Mart. We think this might be an example of the fabric working for you!
Platinum Blonde Life is in love with Lim's Louboutins (rolling those "L"s off the tongue was fun!) showing off a beautiful collage of look at me goodness.
Fasshonaburu has discovered Japanese designer Tsumori Chisato and is loving that its manga print cuteness translates to regular women.
15 Minute Beauty has let it be known that the YSL Black Lipgloss is here. OMG! We are obviously fans here at Coutorture as we have lost track of the amount of times we have referenced this collection.

The West will bring freedom and Democracy to Iraq by uh opening up crappy fast fashion chains?
Spanish chain Mango has plans to open a store Abril a city of one million people in Iraq's northern Kurdistan region.
"We're going to open a shop in Iraq very soon," said Isak Halfon, Mango's president of expansion. "The people are starving for something like this." Huh, perhaps not the best choice of words. The clothing will be designed by Zuhair Murad, a Lebanese designer and thankfully will not include the typical array of skimpy goods, leading us to think this might actually be a pretty good store. This
may answer the question what to wear on holiday to Dubai though if you spent all of your money on luxury accommodations naturally.
Derek Lam has sold a stake of his company to Labelux. The most exciting news involved with the new financing? A freestanding Derek Lam store is planned on Crosby street.
"Market conditions" are
keeping Roberto Cavalli from putting his namesake company for sale. Low season for leopard print it would seem.
Anti-Pope fashion? Huh?
There are apparently compulsive folders that simply
must redo anyone's poor clothing folding. This explains a few of our ex-boyfriends.
Luxury consumers are becoming more pragmatic in the recession. Of course, in this piece they say anyone making over 100K a year is a luxury consumer. Yeah the middle class in New York is cutting back for sure!
On the other end of th economic spectrum,
Wal-Mart just doesn't know when its been beat by fashion.
Apparently women are no longer allowed to dress to impress.
The dress is now officially over much to the chagrin of trend forecasters and mid-market contemporary trade shows. Everyone's favorite Elle editor Anne Slowey has declared “The dress has been done to death." She was however careful to add “not to sound really cliché.” Yes we imagine the dress has been done to death because like pants, shirts, and skirts it is a staple. So the cycle continues.

You might also want to avoid mentioning the dress is dead to junior retailers.
Mod dresses and jumpers are going to be all the rage!

Wal-Mart still doesn't how how it feels about being a discount retailer despite George and Metro 7 flopping with their high priced $30 Mark Eisen creations.
Its jumping back on the fashion band wagon with partnerships with Jones Apparel Group's l.e.i brand and Iconic Brand Group's Op. Somehow this involves advertising in magazines like Lucky and Cosmo using people we don't really know (apparently Kristin Cavallari and Pete Wentz). People so removed from our worldview we aren't even sure if this violates our no celebrity policy by mentioning them or not.
Chicago is having fashion week troubles. Apparently the city was supposed to fashion week style events last Wednesday, called Chicago Fashion Week, that were canceled at the last minute. These are not to be confused with Mayor Daly officially sanctioned fashion week called Fashion Focus Chicago which happens in September. Seems hiring a fashion czar Melissa Gamble hasn't done much for the second city. Which is too bad because we think models walking underneath
Anish Kapoor's Egg in Millennium Park would be awesome.
