Although the high street no-name options are plentiful and tempting, we believe in spending a little more for a nice pair of summer sandals. Nice shoes not only make a good impression but they can make an otherwise plain outfit look fashion forward. To that end (and in the spirit of stimulating the economy) here are 50 pairs of sandals from 50 different designers and brands. The maxi dress-and-sandals look is one that can quickly become unstylish if put together without attention to detail. That said, if the right pieces are in place, it's a comfortable look for cool midseason days. Our favorite combination that doesn't break the bank are grecian-inspired jersey maxi dresses with colorful or eye-catching flat sandals. Toss on a vintage belt or boyfriend blazer and you'll have the look down to a science.

Jelly sandals have reappeared on the summer sandal circuit--and from some of fashion's biggest names. Although it seems an obvious plea to offer editors/buyers/customers something under $150, we think they're a great addition to the season. Considering how quickly sandals wear through, it makes sense to have a few pairs at different price points.

Just like yesterday's big, bright leopard prints, two-tone sandals in bright colors are another example of spring's optimistic mood. Vibrant but still dynamic, there's practically a color combination and heel height for every type of gal out there. We love imagining the outfit possibilities as we think they'd make even an old pair of Levis and a t-shirt look brand new.

Nine out of ten men will agree that a chunky platform sandal is not their favorite fashion statement. In fact we would venture to say that, as a rule, fashion items that elicit the description "chunky" will not fare well with most people. Does that stop women from from spending up to seven hundred dollars on them? Nope. And why is that? We can't say for sure but perhaps it has something to do with the six-inch versions that preceded them. This spring, it looks like comfort is key.

Tired of the complicated platform sandals of last spring it seems many brands are going back to basics. These elastic sandals are easy but still sexy and compliment with the bondage and transparency trends from Spring 09. An added bonus? We find they often don't cost quite as much as their studded, chain-wrapped siblings.
