Liberate your feet from flats this Summer with a pair of breeze-friendly huaraches. Their classic design might not appeal for the most adventurous footwear enthusiast, but your toes will be grateful for a little ventilation. Spice things up with color or keep it simple with a pair in brown.
Colorful, easy flats for next to nothing and they don't come from the high street. Sounds like a formula for success to us. We first learned about Marais USA from our Network Partner, Style Bubble, and though her posting inspired some serious debate, found the shoes to be just what the doctor ordered. With a small selection of styles in a wide variety of brilliant colors, Marais USA offers a simple flat for every possible summer outfit. What's more prices hover around $65 per pair. The Spring collection isn't available for purchase yet, but you can sign up to be notified when they launch. Just click on the link above.
Although the high street no-name options are plentiful and tempting, we believe in spending a little more for a nice pair of summer sandals. Nice shoes not only make a good impression but they can make an otherwise plain outfit look fashion forward. To that end (and in the spirit of stimulating the economy) here are 50 pairs of sandals from 50 different designers and brands. They might cost a little more but we think there are many reasons you might find them worth the money.
Clockwise from top left: A.L.C. Maxi Sari dress $473 @ Madison LA, T-Bags Ruffle front maxi dress $225 @ Net-a-Porter, Ogle Zetta Maxi Dress $156 @ Saks Fifth Avenue, F-Troupe Cross Strap Sandals $175 @ La Garconne, Malabar flat sandals $195 @ J Crew, Irving sandal $65 @ Marais USA
The maxi dress-and-sandals look is one that can quickly become unstylish if put together without attention to detail. That said, if the right pieces are in place, it's a comfortable look for cool midseason days. Our favorite combination that doesn't break the bank are grecian-inspired jersey maxi dresses with colorful or eye-catching flat sandals. Toss on a vintage belt or boyfriend blazer and you'll have the look down to a science.

Jelly sandals have reappeared on the summer sandal circuit--and from some of fashion's biggest names. Although it seems an obvious plea to offer editors/buyers/customers something under $150, we think they're a great addition to the season. Considering how quickly sandals wear through, it makes sense to have a few pairs at different price points.
Clockwise from top left" Fendi Strappy Patent Sandals $615 @ Net-a-Porter, Jeffrey Campbell Rust Suede Heel $165 @ OAK, Pierre Hardy Ribbon Sandal $965 @ Barneys, Marni Suede Platform Slingbacks $770 @ Net-a-Porter, Loeffler Randall Asymmetrical Zip Sandal $475 @ eLuxury, Opening Ceremony Two-Tone Zip Sandal $395 @ eLuxury
Just like yesterday's big, bright leopard prints, two-tone sandals in bright colors are another example of spring's optimistic mood. Vibrant but still dynamic, there's practically a color combination and heel height for every type of gal out there. We love imagining the outfit possibilities as we think they'd make even an old pair of Levis and a t-shirt look brand new.
Nine out of ten men will agree that a chunky platform sandal is not their favorite fashion statement. In fact we would venture to say that, as a rule, fashion items that elicit the description "chunky" will not fare well with most people. Does that stop women from from spending up to seven hundred dollars on them? Nope. And why is that? We can't say for sure but perhaps it has something to do with the six-inch versions that preceded them. This spring, it looks like comfort is key.
Tired of the complicated platform sandals of last spring it seems many brands are going back to basics. These elastic sandals are easy but still sexy and compliment with the bondage and transparency trends from Spring 09. An added bonus? We find they often don't cost quite as much as their studded, chain-wrapped siblings.
Whether it's just one simple sheath or many, this spring we'll be seeing a lot of layered tank dresses. These dresses make for great everyday wear as they will keep you cool and breezy. Pair them with this season's flat statement sandals and you're set.
Even though end-of-year sale madness has us occupied, the Spring 2009 deliveries have started rolling in. It's hard to believe that the Resort and early Spring deliveries have already brought us so many great statement sandals. We're not sure if we're ready to make the plunge but we're always ready to window shop. Check out our favorites, above.
