This Fall 2009 red felt like an appropriate fashion statement and there were plenty of designers who wanted to make it. From brands like Jil Sander, who showed but one red outfit, to Prada, who showed a slew of monochromatic red looks--you had the feeling that this would be one of the season's biggest trends. And it was. Counting those brands and designers who opted for burgundy outfits, it seemed like one third of the Fall 2009 collections contained at least one red look. Fall 2009 New York Trend Report: Red Is The Color Of The Season

Get The Look: The Red Shoe
The Red Shoe And The Lights
Of all the random trends to crop up during New York Fashion Week, the red shoe and light colored garment combination was a welcomed surprise. We forget where we first saw it because these things happen like osmosis, but we can remember, for sure, seeing it at the Behnaz Sarafpour show and then later at Phillip Lim. That was when things took a serious turn for us and we became obsessed with finding it from other designers (and the stylists who likely made that happen)--funny thing was, we did.

For instance, Proenza Schouler (left) showed strapped red heels as part of their now-in house accessories line, and paired them with a mint green and patent trouser look. We also discovered the combination in the Marc Jacobs show, a decided effort on his part as the monochromatic light outfits to come down the runway were few and far between--the red shoes made a strong point here. Finally, it cropped up at Preen (right), acting in compliment to the red frocks that came before and after.
With a set of designers like that all showing the same micro trend in the same season we're pretty sure it won't be long before the whole thing takes flight. Such a thing might happen so fast that we forget all about it when the clothing finally delivers.
Immaterial: Sippy Cups and Bucket Bags
Marni Bucket Shoulder Bag in Rouge Red Eco-Leather
We love it when form and function collide. The sturdy bucket bag is a design meant for practical women with much to lug from sippy cups to sleek portfolio cases. Canvas lining and nylon straps will often feature prominently. But make it bubble gum pink and the connotations start to seem a little less clear. And we grant if it were just some frustrating pink canvas bag meant to make pragmatic women feel as if there is some whimsy in their lives we might not give it a second glance. But make it a Marni Bucket Shoulder Bag in Rouge Red Eco Leather and we are liable to throw around the word genius and inspired. Call us a slave to labels but only Consuelo Castiglioni could help bring together these disparate worlds and not make us feel as if its a bag meant for a frustrated Park Slope mom, an insufferable graphic design geek girl, or a McKinsey consultant. London Turns Out A Little Opulence
We'll have the Jenny Packham Fall 08 show to you shortly and here's a sneak peek from backstage. Looks like the London red's are still turning up as the week continues and though many designers from London Fashion Week are presenting much darker, more sinister collections, opulence is bound to turn up somewhere. The Packham show should be quite romantic (the woman does bridal wear for god sakes), and dare we say it, appropriate to show on Valentine's Day.
