Looks like all of those fabulous statement shoes from the Spring 09 season are finally hitting shelves...and just in time for the Fall 2009 women's ready to wear shows. Can you handle it? Yeah, neither can we. Our best advice is to stash a dust bag with a pair of rolled up ballet slippers in your purse. You know, just in case.
When it comes to making an investment in fashion it's always a bonus when the item you fancy calls up more than one trend at a time. In this case, an earth-tone platform sandal calls up the palette of Spring 09 and the shape of the must-have shoe at once. What's more, even though these shoes are, by definition, 'trendy', they still look classic and somewhat refined--if you're going to walk in 5" platforms, better keep the color somewhat understated. Check out our favorites in the gallery below, with pricing information and where to buy credited under each picture. For examples on the Spring 2009 runway, check out our trend report from the Paris shows, entitled "50 Pairs of Fabulous Shoes".
One of our favorite styling tricks from the Fall 08 season is matching opaque tights and statement shoes--if you can manage to put these together, the rest of your outfit can be simple and classic. Whether it's a pair of cut-out sandals, covered platforms, or lace-up booties, grab a pair of opaque hosiery to match your favorite shoes for the season and you'll be good to go.
These Preen for Topshop shoes are basic and chic--plus, the only civilized way to wear suede in the Fall is when the cold, hard ground doesn't come between you and your shoe. With black one inch platforms lining the bottom of these shoes, we'd hardly give wearing them in the dead of winter a second thought. To see the Preen Spring 2009 collection, click here.
When we stopped over at Archetype showroom last week we couldn't help but snap a picture of these Surface To Air Spring 2009 platform sandals. In three perfectly basic shades, they are sure to be a must-have among downtown fashionistas. In the summer, even though the weather is warm, that doesn't mean you have to walk around in flimsy sandals. These shoes are on our Spring 09 wishlist for sure.
This isn't the first time we've given a nod to Victoria's Secret footwear--if you're trying to keep under one hundred dollars and not look like you just stepped off of a Canal Street delivery truck, Victoria's Secret comes as one of our highest recommendations. Frankly, sometimes you need to do some filler shopping--a nude platform here, a high-heeled ankle boot there, and something basic and affordable works because you know the shoe in question will only work with a limited number or outfits in the first place. Take the rose colored classic platform, pictured above. Pair these with dark denim or black opaque tights and you'll feel like your entire wardrobe has been revitalized in an instant. The Victoria's Secret runway show might cost a pretty penny to put on but they can probably afford it--given how many shoes they must sell in a season.
