Oversized and bejeweled, fall's new neckpieces are distinct, statement-making accessories we must own now. They add a touch of unexpected glamour to a simple white tee shirt and will instantly refresh last season's favorite cocktail dress. Our picks for best of the bunch? Tory Burch's Egyptian-inspired collar, Ranjana Khan's beaded bibs, Yves Saint Laurent's jet crystals, and Lizzie Fortunato's asymmetrical breastplate.
Fringe necklaces come in all styles this fall--from haute hippie to goth goddess. We love statement necklaces so this trend is right up our alley. Wear one of these fringe necklaces during the day with classic jeans and a t-shirt, and, for evening, with your favorite LBD and platform sandals. Both looks will go from classic to high fashion in an instant.
All three of these crazy Ka Pow Wow necklaces could be yours tomorrow as London based retailer, Kabiri, has picked up the brand. Better known in New York for selling out at Pixie Market every time they hit the shelves, these necklaces made of recycled materials are a perfect encapsulation of the statement necklace trend from the Spring 09 catwalks. The only difference is, rather than spending upwards of seven hundred dollars on thatBurberry Prorsum necklace or thatMarni necklace, you can spend more like two hundred. Not saying we wouldn't like to wear those higher priced numbers, just saying it's nice to have some options.
There couldn't be a better time for Fiona Paxton's range of embroidered statement necklaces inspired by 1920's glamour. But don't chalk it up to mere coincidence, the designer has worked on prints and embroideries for the likes of Moschino, Armani, and Chloe so it's safe to assume she knows a thing or two about trends. The collection, launched in 2008, is already selling out on Kabiri (a great place to find jewelry from up-and-comers) and is only bound to expand as 2009 is slated to be as accessories-dominant as ever. Paxton's necklaces start around $210 and are hand beaded. To learn more about the designer, click here.
First off, there's no denying that the quality of a $1220 dollar Lanvin necklace will differ from that of a $7 Forever 21 version--of course it will. But doesn't this seem absurd, if only for a moment? We're not sure what these six necklaces better demonstrates, the fact that quality is not a dimension in e-commerce or that everyone--from mass market retailer to French fashion house--is trying to save a buck these days. Or could ribbon have coincidentally become a popular way to tie a few stones around your neck? Something tells us there's more to it than that.
Talk about a DIY dream come true---these simple necklaces from the Spring 2009 shows are a great last-minute accessory for an outfit that just feels too plain. Reyes Spring 09 showed a Girl Scout-like look while Givenchy Spring 09 showed a more western-influenced style. Both are perfect in our eyes. Understated, tidy, affordable--these necklaces are a great way to show off Spring's elegant buttoned-up blouses.
Lately we've been seeing necklaces that are really blowing our minds--our Network Partner, Style Bubble, has been hot on this particular fashion topic for some time now--cluing us in to a few of the designers on our top ten list. Otherwise, Pixie Market has been keeping a full-stock of shocking necklaces (that sell out immediately) and small designers, like Deka Ray, are making bigger statements than ever before. Whatever the reason, large and in charge necklaces are taking the fashion world by storm. Check out our top ten favorite statement necklects right here.
The Spring 2009 Statement Necklace: Bauble Or Geometric

The statement necklace is here to stay and this Spring 2009 there were two distinct (but equally covetable) camps. Bauble necklaces cropped up at Burberry and Marni, they were colorful and mis-matched for the artistic Type-B chicsters. Then, there were those on the straight and narrow. Geometric necklaces cropped up at United Bamboo and VPL and they were Type-A all the way. The rule with personality types, remember, is that few people are just one type or the other. Bauble or geometric, it could just depend on the day.

When it's sweltering, the only thing you can safely pile-on, aside from sunblock, is jewelry. Perhaps you've hit the point, like we have, where the novelty of summertime clothing has worn off, and all your left with is your favorite cut-offs and thinest t-shirts. A few odds and ends might rejuvenate things a bit. We have to say that jewelry is, more or less, something we just kind of forget to wear. A few years ago, however, we learned a valuable lesson that has given us our own jewelry-manifesto. Back when the Lizzie Fortunato girls were fresh out of college we attended one of their trunk shows and bought a necklace that was as heavy as a handbag and completely crazy and stunning. It was at this point that we realize that jewelry can actually make and outfit--even one as simple as a t-shirt and jean shorts. We know at this time in the season, people are making shortlists of what should be their best fall wardrobe to-date. To that end, we think it's wise to give your July/August wardrobe some last-minute love. We've put together our favorite big, bright necklaces that will make you no less hot and a lot more stylish.
