Of all of Geraldine Stutz’s innovations for Henri Bendel, the Street of Shops is perhaps the most beloved. As conceived by Stutz, Bendel’s president between 1957 and 1986, various categories such as stockings, tabletop items, stationery, flowers and cosmetics were housed in small side-by-side boutiques. Now Bendel’s is bringing the concept back, but with a few twists. Rather than cluster shops together in one area as the previous Street incarnation did, “We wanted them to pop up throughout the entire store,” said Ed Bucciarelli, the retailer’s president and chief executive officer.

Quote Of The Day: Henri Bendel Hosts Their Semi-Annual "Open-See"
A 13-year-old girl wearing a plaid skirt and braces was playing hooky from school to show the line of jewelry that she had been working on “all her life.”... A few rings were selected, and phone numbers were exchanged with her mother.
"At Henri Bendel, Wannabes Welcome", The MomentRebecca Minkoff Debuts Spring Handbag Range At Henri Bendel
Because there's always time to shop during Fashion Week--Rebecca Minkoff's Spring 2009 handbag range will debut at Henri Bendel with its own in-store pop-up shop later this week. Minkoff will be there to sign handbags (lining bound, of course) and talk to clients about the new collection. Having seen her Spring 09 collection up close at the Intermezzo trade show earlier this year, we can say it will be more than worth the trip. Minkoff's faux-croc laptop cases, studded envelope clutches, and classic morning-after bags are certainly looking fresh, colorful, and investment-worthy this season.
Will Hemlines at Henri Bendel Save Us?

A little birdie at Henri Bendel sent us a note today reminding us about the correlation the connection between good economic times and higher hemlines.
From what we can tell the theory goes something like this:
Financial analysts have loosely used it to determine where the economy is headed. So far it’s been pretty accurate. In the '20s and '60s, hemlines were at a high and so was the stock market. And in the '30s and '40s, the stock market was so low that women were almost tripping on their skirts. The hemline theory was also on the ball in 1987. Miniskirts were all the rage, and the stock market was at a matching high. But then the market quickly crashed in October, right when designers such as Bill Blass decided that miniskirts looked ridiculous. Hemlines dropped and so did the market.
In which case all of those sexy minidresses we are seeing on the runways of Balmain, Herve Leger and Versace might just be our ticket to better times. In which case if this a potential buy strategy for Henri Bendel could they just be saving us from the recession?
Collab Mad: Victor Glemaud for Henri Bendel
Fashion continues to remain youth and collaboration obsessed. Henri Bendels has announced it will be launching a limited 150 double cardigan sweater collaboration with Victor Glemaud. Traditionally a menswear designer, this will be the first time that Glemaud tackles womenswear. The sweaters will come in three combos, pale gray and bright pink; black and charcoal gray, and camel and leopard print. The 100 percent cashmere sweaters are accented with shiny gold buttons and will retail for $348 each starting this August. Bendel's vice president and fashion director, Ann Watson hopes to collaborate with a designer at least once a season. We supposed we should simply be pleased we won't have to borrow our boyfriend's cardigans anymore.
