2010 CFDA Award Nominees and Honorees Announced

Diane von Furstenberg, who will be the president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America until at least Dec. 31, 2012, announced the 2010 CFDA award nominees this evening in her New York headquarters. The award ceremony will be held on June 7 at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall and will again include the Popular Vote award, which is open to the public and was given to Ralph Lauren in 2009.

This year, Christopher Bailey will be honored with the International Award for his work at Burberry, Tonne Goodman will receive the Eleanor Lambert Award, the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Michael Kors, and Alexander McQueen will posthumously receive the CFDA Board of Directors' Special Tribute Award.

Diane von Furstenberg Releases Compilation Album to Benefit Women's Charity

Diane von Furstenberg is releasing a compilation album called "Proud to be Woman" to benefit Vital Voices, an organization committed to empowering female leaders around the globe.

Mary J. Bllige, Santigold, Bebel Gilberto, Christina Aguilera, Joss Stone, and Estelle are among the female artists appearing on the album to be released on International Women's Day (March 8) and available at Diane von Furstenberg boutiques, DVF.com, and iTunes.

To celebrate the CD Estelle will host an event Monday night in DVF's New York store, and on March 16 the Los Angeles boutique will present live a performance by Mozella. Diane von Furstenberg will also donate 10 percent of worldwide store sales from March 8-15 to Vital Voices. It's time to shop for a cause.

Diane Von Furstenberg To Design Home Furnishings Collection

Pleasing textile lovers everywhere, Diane Von Furstenberg has announced she is working on a collection of home furnishings as part of a licensing deal with Springs Global. The line reportedly will include bedding, bath, and tabletop.

Von Furstenberg is hardly new to the interior design market having designed household items in the Seventies with mass retailer, Sears, and more recently collaborated on a capsule line with the Rug Company.

The new home collection will debut to wholesalers this spring but, sadly, will not be available to the public until early 2011. We have a feeling this is one collaboration that will definitely be worth the wait.

Diane von Furstenberg's Colorful Runway Accessories are Made from Telephone Wire in South Africa

Turns out the armfuls of colorful bangles worn by models during Diane von Furstenberg's spring 2010 runway collection in New York retail for less than $25.

Recycled from old telephone wires, the bracelets were made by artisans associated with The Bartel Arts Trust, a South African-based community art center that promotes local crafts. The DVF-approved bold accessories can be purchased at Gifts With Humanity along with organic fair trade coffees, home decor and note cards and stationery. Right in time for the holidays, happy (guilt free) shopping!

At the hands of Belgian fashion designer Dries Van Noten, mixed prints and layers of contrasting fabrics somehow make sense when paired with graphic jeweled cuffs and oversized neckpieces. Diane von Furstenberg took a more bohemian approach to the tribal trend for spring-with armfuls of bangles and printed maxi-dresses-while Frida Giannini and Nicolas Ghesquière fell hard for the urban warrior.

Runway Report: Diane Von Furstenberg Spring 2010

Diane von Furstenberg's global nomad bounced around the north African desert this season, making a sunset stop along the Nile River. Von Frustenberg is known to put on a great show, and this season her powerful front row included André Leon Talley, Tina Brown, Fran Lebowitz, Graydon Carter, Terry Richardson and Carine Roitfeld (in a blue and white striped button down shirt and khaki pencil skirt).

Presenting a collection of very wearable separates and dresses-we especially loved a cream tunic embellished with blue floral beading and the perfect-for-traveling, colorful jersey dresses-von Furstenberg is in her element designing for the spring season, when shoppers long for color and print. The strongest prints-animal skin safari, washed-out florals and ancient-inspired graphics-were offset by vibrant solid pieces in slate, red, green and yellow.

The bounty of accessories on the runway were one-part Egyptian Queen (armfuls of woven bangles) and one part Greek Goddess (gold laurel wreaths), celebrating the free-spirited traveler that is Diane von Furstenberg.
