Velvet-especially red and oxblood colored-was all over the New York runways for fall 2010. Alexander Wang draped the deep red fabric into asymmetric mini dresses with black lace detailing, Zac Posen used vampy reds for pleated bustier dresses and seventies style trouser suits, and Ralph Lauren kept it classic with velvet mutton sleeved tunics and floor-length evening gowns.

Zac Posen's Theatrical Pre-Fall 2010 Collection

Zac Posen described his pre-fall collection as "Lewis Carroll meets Paloma Picasso". The former expressed through whimsical prints of hopping bunnies, mushrooms, and swans and the latter via bow-front blouses, tailored wide leg trousers, and the models' beauty moment-pulled back hair with red lips.

Zac Posen is Next to Design Go International Collection for Target

Two weeks after announcing the launch of Z Spoke, a secondary line in partnership with Saks Fifth Avenue, Zac Posen confirms he is next in line to design a Go International collection with Target. Posen's pieces will be in Target stores and online from April 25 - May 30th.

Target also recently announced two new accessory collaborations launching in April-hats by Eugenia Kim and footwear by Cynthia Vincent will be available on the 18th in Target stores and online.

In other Target news, don't forget to mark your calendars for the Rodarte Go International collection, which willl hit stores on December 20.

Zac Posen Ditches Hollywood for Urban Hipsters with New Saks Collection

Zac Posen is launching a lower-priced bridge collection exclusively with Saks Fifth Avenue next spring. According to Posen, the line-called Z Spoke-has an "urban hipster quality." He added that he could see the collection on Lower East Side girls.

That's a long way from Posen's designer collection, which is heavy on dramatic party clothes and over-the-top evening dresses. Posen says it's not a change of design philosophy as much as an answer to retailers' demand for more American sportswear-meaning he needs to sell some clothes.

Z Spoke will retail from $78 (for a t-shirt) to $675 (for a knit dress) and launch in 17 Saks stores on the same floor as Tory Burch and Elie Tahari.

“To me, it’s more appropriate to build a whole brand and collection around this price point," said Posen. "Chic sportswear should be at this price point. Designer dresses and cocktail pieces should be at a more expensive price point.” Zac Posen's designer collection retails for $900 to upwards of $12,000.
