This season in Milan, Yves Saint Laurent creative director Stefano Pilati debuted a short film before his Spring 2010 men's collection went down the runway. Directed by Samuel Benchetrit and starring Benchetrit's 11 year-old son, Jules, the film depicts the mischievous happenings of a young boy left alone for the afternoon. Aside from videos, YSL's recent marketing strategies and special projects include outstanding and well-received multimedia manifestos, unisex collections and eco-friendly offerings.

The Yves Saint Laurent Fall 2009 collection might have veered away from color and print but Resort 2010 is a whole different story. Voluminous and colorful, this Resort collection from Stefano Pilati paid homage to the late Yves Saint Laurent and his longtime muse, Loulou de la Falaise. As for accessories, handbags were rendered in earth tones while jewelry used semiprecious stones and shells.

Yves Saint Laurent doesn't have much of a high street collaboration history to speak of but, between the manifesto and Edition Unisex collection, it should come as no surprise that the brand would move in that direction. Following in the footsteps of Alexander McQueen and Sergio Rossi, Stefano Pilati designed a YSL men's shoe for Puma poised to hit shelves any day now. The Yves Saint Laurent Pre-Fall 2009 collection was complimented for being an accessible mid-season range. For this collection Stefano Pilati experimented with fabrication in order to drive costs down and keep sales up. When we happened upon the look book today, imagine our surprise when we saw a more avant-garde approach to its representation. The Pre-Fall 2009 collection was shot in every angle imaginable--is this an effort to mystify a range of YSL basics or did they think the clothing really looked better this way? Jumpsuits are all the rage this season and no one offered luxe examples in as many fabrications as did Stefano Pilati for Yves Saint Laurent. Net-a-Porter's exclusive with the label gives YSL fans an option under two thousand dollars but, other than that, these jumpsuits will cost you a pretty penny. Beautifully tailored that they are, one might rationalize the price by comparing them to made-to-measure suits.
