In preparation for our travels home for Thanksgiving we did something we only do when we're about to board and airplane or hop on a bus: we bought a hard copy of the NY Times. Funnily enough, the article that caught our eye dealt with an internet phenomenon taking over a business that formerly pivoted on hard copies. Namely, coupon clipping. In this article not only was our Network Partner, The Budget Fashionista, interviewed, but our eyes were opened to an e-commerce phenomenon sweeping an entirely new group of users.
This weekend, while perched in our family kitchen, a novelty mug in hand, we searched Retail Me Not for a Victoria's Secret discount code. Four minutes later we purchased a pair of garnet-colored platforms for twenty percent off.
In this economic climate, what could more appropriate than coupon clipping? And what could make the whole process less painful? The absence of scissors and a little bit of anonymity thankyouverymuch.
This isn't the first time we've given a nod to Victoria's Secret footwear--if you're trying to keep under one hundred dollars and not look like you just stepped off of a Canal Street delivery truck, Victoria's Secret comes as one of our highest recommendations. Frankly, sometimes you need to do some filler shopping--a nude platform here, a high-heeled ankle boot there, and something basic and affordable works because you know the shoe in question will only work with a limited number or outfits in the first place. Take the rose colored classic platform, pictured above. Pair these with dark denim or black opaque tights and you'll feel like your entire wardrobe has been revitalized in an instant. The Victoria's Secret runway show might cost a pretty penny to put on but they can probably afford it--given how many shoes they must sell in a season.
The fashion industry lived large for a weekend at the Victoria's Secret 2008 fashion show in Miami at the newly restored Fontainbleu hotel. Aside from the lavishness of a pre-show concert and the hotel itself, the fashion show had an estimated budget of 15 million dollars. Check out our runway gallery, right here.
Lutz & Patmos has recently launched their e-commerce site and it is, thankfully, straightforward and easy-to-use. Perhaps their wise decision to keep things simple stems from the fact that the brand has yet to open its own freestanding store. As a result, the site pivots on line sheet drawings (those which are given to buyers so that they can see what the garment actually looks like) and other intuitive selling functions.
Everyone loves the new ankle boots that are taking Fall 08 by storm, but what about those days when you're running errands and need an element of comfort? We're loving the combination of cropped denim and flat ankle boots for this reason. Whether it's a loud tie-dye wash, a sleek dark skinny jean, or the boyfriend cut, pairing your favorite cropped denim with a pair of flat ankle-highs is a fashionable and comfortable option. The Repetto boots are our favorite but the fringe and motorcycle boots are both more affordable and classic. Take your pick, and indulge in this perfect combination.
Lately, shoes have been our only concern, and today, our discovery of a new street style website and subsequent girl about town, led us to add another Fall 08 shoe must-have to the list. We've picked out four options, two designer and two high street examples, so that you can get this look too. Check out Garance Dore for tons of Paris Fashion Week Spring 09 street style coverage and enough chicsters to send you on a shopping spree by lunchtime.
