A Look We Love: Luxe Fringe Vests
spread, feature · November 7, 2008 · 0 Comments
We're currently in the market for a fringe vest like the those we've seen on fashionistas since the weather has gotten colder. In the end, it's a choice between something a little more accessible and feminine, like the WPQ vest from Pixie Market, or more edgy and substantial (not to mention, expensive), like Pencey's version at OAK. Whichever you prefer, this is a warm way to represent the luxe trend from Fall 08--we think this is the kind of trend you'll kind of live in.
Fashion Verbatim Shoutout: A Vest By Any Other Name
April 16, 2008 · 0 Comments
Fashion Verbatim is getting excited for spring by chopping off sleeves and pant legs. But we are curious about the name of the Vanessa Bruno Sleeves Blazer he features. It certainly looks like a vest to us. But we did a little digging and we have begun to notice that the term vest doesn't always seem to apply. In fact, many garments are being sold that look rather like vests but mimic dresses, shrugs, sweaters, and even tuxedos. We suppose the classic hipster joke about their dislike for sleeves means that new variations on the vest theme was only a matter of time. After all, vests were so last summer. If we believe Fashion Verbatim its all about the sleeveless blazer this season.

Our network partner, Kingdom Of Style, reported on a burning desire for a waistcoat from Warehouse. Being that we are in New York, and Kingdom Of Style writes from London, we thought it appropriate to present some stateside options. The waistcoat epitomizes a dressed up gentlemen's look for women and in towns such as these, where the obvious option is the 'little black' whatever, adding a tailored garment can make all the difference. Waistcoat, in case you haven't noticed, is 'vest' in the King's English. Generally speaking, waistcoats are tailored where a vest can encompass everything from oversized knits to suede tassled versions. As a general rule, if it makes you stand a little bit taller and it's sleeveless, you're wearing a waistcoat. If it's embroidered with a Christmas tree and worn by your favorite 5th grade math teacher, it's a vest. Below we've found waistcoats from the likes of Rag & Bone, Todd Lynn Jackson, and McQ.
