Fashion Industry Designs Houses for Womens' Charity

You can tell a lot about a person by looking at their home-Vera Wang's is covered in rhinestones and tulle, Isaac Mizrahi's is perfectly printed in vibrant pink, Diane von Furstenberg's is dripping in leopard and lips, and Sean Combs' comes equipped with a helipad.

Although not real interiors, these papier-mâché houses were created by fashion celebrities coming together to raise money for the Women In Need charity. Each hand-decorated piece will be displayed in the windows of Saks Fifth Avenue in New York and auctioned on charitybuzz.com on November 9th. For Resort, Vera Wang called up some of the themes she's been experimenting with in recent seasons. Dense metals, wisp-thin blouses and dresses and statement jewelry reappeared. The designer opted for flats on the runway, another piece of evidence that suggests sky-high heels are on their way out.

An edgy, rock-and-roll concept will always be better suited for Vera Wang's lower priced diffusion line, Lavender Label, and this Fall 2009 was no exception. The theme was "Medieval Mod" and allowed for layered metallics, hard and soft elements, and close-to-the-body silhouettes. Vera Wang's Fall 2009 ready to wear collection will show at the designer's SoHo Flagship during New York Fashion Week.

Vera Wang's Spring 2009 collection called up a new trend for Spring 2009, namely, layering organza. Sheer trends have been present for seasons now and Wang brought it to its most delicate point. The color palate, silhouettes, and ease at which she made this fussy fabric ready for day wear make this an outstanding collection indeed. Both Francisco Costa and Donna Karan revealed that their Fall 2009 collections will be smaller this season, in an effort to cut costs. Now there's a thought.

Kate Moss has re-signed her contract with high street retailer, Topshop, for another three years. The supermodel plans to expand her range to include accessories and lingerie.

A collaboration with Linda Farrow has become a right of passage for young designers. Refinery 29 has the scoop on those for House of Holland, Peter Pilotto, and the like.

Last night British designers and fashion industry pioneers were saluted for their accomplishments at the British Fashion Awards. Among them were Matthew Williamson for Red Carpet Designer, Jourdan Dun for Model of the Year, Nicholas Kirkwood for Swarovski Emerging Talent, and Luella Bartley for Designer of the Year. The suspense builds as Black Friday approaches--we've noticed nervousness in our retail-proximate friends as they try to anticipate just how low a markdown will move the merchandise. Now, WWD rallies up the evidence.

Brooklyn retailer Bird is counting on a pop-up shop to bring in extra sales during the holiday season. A new Williamsburg location will be partially open for the month of December and will include limited edition designs from Steven Alan, Stella McCartney accessories, and holiday collections from the likes of Tsumori Chisato and Rachel Comey. Sounds like a Brooklyn holiday to us.
