The Kings of Leon 12-piece collection for Parisian collective, Surface To Air, called KOL x S2A, is available this month in London's The Shop at Bluebird. The collection of rock uniform basics includes a washed leather jacket, checked shirts, black leather boots, a plaid handkerchief, and a black trilby hat. We call the band shirt officially trumped.
Chloe Sevigny's Opening Ceremony buckle boots are available for pre-order from now until this Wednesday. The boots, which come in black leather and suede, retail for $625. Similar in style to Acne's once-eponymous Niara sandal and the Spring 09 must-have buckle sandal from Surface to Air, we're guessing the shoe will fare well next season. Order them now and you'll be able to wear them in late August/early September. Back to school outfit anyone? Pair these boots a la Sevigny by wearing them with her fair isle knits and loose androgynous blouses. The Fall 2009 Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony range will begin delivering in August.
We stopped over at Bird last weekend and had a peek at Tsumori Chisato's Spring 2009 collection. Vibrant and free-spirited as always, the range suits Spring's optimistic mood. Creative agency/clothing label/film studio Surface to Air has been in charge of Chisato's ad campaigns for eight seasons now. This Spring 09 they amped up the surrealist vibe and brought out the colors in Chisato's fantastic prints. Check out the campaign images in the gallery below.
When we stopped over at Archetype showroom last week we couldn't help but snap a picture of these Surface To Air Spring 2009 platform sandals. In three perfectly basic shades, they are sure to be a must-have among downtown fashionistas. In the summer, even though the weather is warm, that doesn't mean you have to walk around in flimsy sandals. These shoes are on our Spring 09 wishlist for sure.
This morning we got an email from Filson advertising their chambray work shirt. Now given the original demographic of Filson this is hardly surprising that a classic workshirt would be a popular item to send out in mailer, but the brand has been newly adopted by the Freeman's set with every creative yuppie in the LES and Williamsburg carrying their classic briefcase.
Indeed, the adoption of hearty hard living garments at designer price points has become endemic among the hipper retailers. Chambray in particular has become a fabric of choice for everything from shirts and dresses to trousers and shorts. Chambray, a fine lightweight fabric woven with white threads across a colored warp, originated in Mesopotamia around 50000 B.C in another age of intellectual flourishing so perhaps its just a fabric of the people for the next set of snobbish people. Proving that despite Sarah Palin's feeling of safety around Carharrts and steel-toed boots anyone can adopt comfortable workwear.
Sure, shown together the Tsumori Chisato aesthetic can look like a magpie catastrophe, but dilute this collection with a "regular" coif and basics like black pants or a nice white tee-shirt elsewhere, and you've got that Chisato magic ready to turn you into a fashion superstar--we love the colors, we love the shapes, we love the insanity of it all. We like designers like Chisato and, say, Basso & Brooke, who show that dressing like a left of center, fashion kid doesn't necessarily mean ridding your closet of color in some Rad Hourani or Martin Margiela manner. Chisato gives credence to the claim that one can only truly be fashion forward with a little daring color or intense imagery. Chisato always feels so seventies and so the designer will probably never hear a bad word from us. Disco, after all, never goes out of style. We can't wait to see how Surface to Air puts together the Spring 09 advertisements. We think last Spring might be hard to beat.
