Having indulged in something of a statement necklace binge last season, it seemed possible that the trend would lose steam this Fall. Although fewer designers showed off oversize necklaces, many chose to go for the look again. Surely an investment that won't go unnoticed, wear an oversized necklace with pulled back hair and minimal makeup.

Better known in New York for selling out at Pixie Market every time they hit the shelves, these necklaces made of recycled materials are a perfect encapsulation of the statement necklace trend from the Spring 09 catwalks. The only difference is, rather than spending upwards of seven hundred dollars on thatBurberry Prorsum necklace or thatMarni necklace, you can spend more like two hundred. Not saying we wouldn't like to wear those higher priced numbers, just saying it's nice to have some options.
First off, there's no denying that the quality of a $1220 dollar Lanvin necklace will differ from that of a $7 Forever 21 version--of course it will. But doesn't this seem absurd, if only for a moment? We're not sure what these six necklaces better demonstrates, the fact that quality is not a dimension in e-commerce or that everyone--from mass market retailer to French fashion house--is trying to save a buck these days. Or could ribbon have coincidentally become a popular way to tie a few stones around your neck? Something tells us there's more to it than that.
