A Look We Love: Cropped Denim And Flat Ankle Boots
We Declare These Magic Pants
Yes, you're hearing us right, we've found the culmination of all of our Fall 08 desires in the form of one single pair of trousers, namely, the Siwy Hannah trousers in (wait for it) SEQUINS! We remember it like it was yesterday, we sat down to watch the YSL Fall 08 show and caught a glimpse of the outfit that just about did it for us; those voluminous sequined trousers would forever be burned into our minds. Months later we realized the weight of the sequin trend and set about putting a sequined somethingorother on our Fall 08 shopping list. And then we found the sequined Hannah pants from a brand we already love (just check the tag) and in a very flattering slim cropped drainpipe cut. The only question remaining in our minds is whether to size up and how the other e-commerce sites plan to style these magic pants--because the white tank and platforms kind of miss the mark.
Shop Moves, Siwy Is Celebrated
Beloved Lower East Side boutique, Shop, famous for carrying cotton basics, hard to find contemporary French brands (like Iro), New York City's best accessories designers (like Jenny Yuen), and Siwy jeans, has moved a few blocks South--to a bigger and better space. The new location, 94 Orchard Street, is now twice the size and located in a section of downtown that's gentrifying like mad with hip new galleries and restaurants.

Shop is one of our favorite stores because it's sweet and homey (you'll still find a worn pink floor and lingerie on clotheslines at the new location) but still on the cusp of what's happening in contemporary fashion. A perfect example? Shop was one of the first stores we can remember to carry Phillip Lim's line, back when he first left Development, and before anyone even knew who he was. The list, in that regard, goes on but you won't find Shop getting all high and mighty about it--the thing is, they're just not those kind of girls.
If you should find yourself in New York this month, Shop is celebrating another designer they've long supported and has since gone on to become a huge sensation, namely, Michelle Siwy of Siwy denim. Michelle Siwy will be giving individual fittings to guests who can also enjoy cocktails, cupcakes, and a 20% discount on all the Siwy in the store. We don't know about you but next Thursday you'll find us wearing Siwy with a cupcake in our hand.
A Siwy Denim Spring/Summer
Siwy denim, the New York based label, has given us some non-frock alternatives for Summer. Usually in the summer, our jeans rotation slows down and emphasis is put on only the best and most comfortable pairs. Siwy is one of the only denim lines around that really designs a Spring/Summer collection. It's not just a lighter wash, it's everything from color to rise to cut, that's considered. This fact alone makes Siwy a prime candidate for dominating the top three spots of the coveted summer denim rotation. This season, our favorite styles include the Carmen shorts, a low rise, single pleat pair with rounded side seams (which equal breathing room) and the Selma, a slouchy boot cut pair that we can vividly imagine with our favorite ex-boyfriend t-shirt and canvas sneakers. What's more, this season's most prominent washes are a crisp white, midnight, and classic blue which decidedly cover all of our basic summer denim needs.
