Sigerson Morrison Launches Online Store

A Closer Look at Sigerson Morrison's Collaboration with Pringle of Scotland
Fans of Sigerson Morrison got good news yesterday when it was revealed that Pringle of Scotland had collaborated with the Nolita shoe house for Spring 2009. While plenty of sketches made their way around the internet we thought it might be nice to give everyone a closer look at the line which we can safely predict will be quite the hit. We already want a pair in cream.

Italians are not scared of ecommerce anymore. Really! Milan's Politecnico University, called MIP, will inaugurate Italy's first master's degree program aimed at creating specialists in online fashion sales. Too bad the internships will happen at Yoox's Emporio Armani store. Usability may not be a core value of the program.
Its a good thing the Prada IPO has been pushed back as sticking to a core money making business has never been something at which the brand excells. And often to very positive effect. Prada's new art project with favored architect Remm Koohlhas? Its called Transformer, which will be unveiled in Seoul, South Korea, next year. Transformer is a tetrahedron structure in lieu of a theater that will accommodate cultural, artistic and fashion events Prada is organizing. If Prada has Koolhas and Chanel has Zaha Hadid which duelling fashion + architect team is the Autobots. And more importantly who are the Decepticons?
Iisli has a pop up store on Bond Street. Iceland Kisan is opening a boutique in Soho. Villa Moda has some serious bling in Bahrain. Good thing they now have the backing of the entire country of Dubai to get fancy. Also fast fashion may be out!
The rich keep getting richer even as America decides to be come a socialist country, thus Valentino’s accessories designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli are going to the ultimate luxury destination with a new couture handbag line. Shopping Couture is a line of bags with just one tote — served up in 10 variations.
Dolce Vita Knocks Off Sigerson Morrison
Yesterday, when talking about "the shoe that got away", we noticed a twist in the story. Something we didn't mention when we were articulating our love for the Peter Pan shoe by Sigerson Morrison was that, the season prior, we had purchased a flat loafer from the brand in the same grey, suede. The loafer served us well and we would have bought them a second time, had the shoe not been discontinued. When, the next season, we saw a peter pan shoe in the same grey, suede, we put the loafer we loved so dearly, to rest. So, yesterday, when making a reference to Dolce Vita's rip-off of the vintage peter pan shoe (we know, it's a bit confusing), we noticed another rip off that makes the story all the more interesting (well, at least to us). There, on the Dolce Vita site, was the grey loafer, the exact grey loafer that prompted us to find our true love, the Sigerson Morrison peter pan shoe, masquerading at a Dolce Vita design. Dolce Vita gets ripped off left and right so maybe this is their retribution? Well, look ladies. The Sigerson loafer, the original version of this particular shoe, is no longer. If you like the Dolce Vita version, we don't blame you. We just thought you might like to know where that little guy came from--just West of Bowery, thankyouverymuch.
Good News On The Footwear Front
If you're feeling our love for this shoe, call Sigerson Morrison and get your name in the books. You see, a few seasons ago Sigerson Morrison created the perfect peter pan shoe in both suede and leather (the leather version does not, in our opinion, do this shoe justice). The suede came in a dusty grey color and it was, in a few words, the most perfect peter pan shoe in the world. Well, we tried the shoe on and hesitated because, at this time, the vintage stores were stocking the woven versions that had a similar shape and look to them (this season Dolce Vita has ripped those off) but, what we realized long after the suede Sigerson Morrison version went out of stock, was that the vintage pairs only last for a quarter of the season and that the suede, modern version would have been the wisest investment. So, needless to say, since that time we've asked, every time we walk into the Sigerson Store, if they'll ever remake the suede version of the shoe. We have no shame.
This weekend when we popped into the store and went through our drill of picking up the patent leather version and asking the clerk whether the suede version would ever grace the floor again, we were given a response we thought we'd only hear in our dreams: "Why yes, it's about to deliver in that dusty grey version any day now". Say what? Cardiac arrest best describes our reaction to this news. We know everyone can say something about 'the shoe that got away' and we just had to share this story of hope. Peter pan fans, your day has come.
Telephone Tag: The Ankle Strap Sandals
Last night, over drinks, a girl friend was telling us about her mad search for the Sigerson Morrison Ankle Strap Sandals. Her version of the story includes a nasty clerk (the Nolita outpost is known for having a little extra 'tude) and a slimmer, less fashion-y alternative. Needless to say, when we heard the story we patted her on the back and said, "Waiter, another round please.".
Let's play a little Telephone Tag, shall we?
"Hello, Sigerson Morrison"
"Hi there, I have a question for you."
[Total silence]
"I'm looking for the black woven Ankle Strap Sandals"
"Oh, those hardly hit the floor."
"Oh, hmm."
"Wait, what size are you? I think someone just returned a pair."
"Great, eight and a half!"
"Oh, yeah, sorry. We've a six and a half and a ten. Yeah, they just, those were in all of the magazines so we sold out really fast. But we're taking preorders."
"Wonderful. How long might I have to wait if I preorder?"
"Well, we just shipped the March preorders so..."
"Oh dear. I guess I could check with your Los Angeles store first."
"Yeah, you could do that...because the preorders are the real deal. You know, people call and they just want to be notified when we get more in. And, like, that's not a preorder. That's just us calling you."
"Certainly is. I can't believe people don't understand the concept of slapping down your plastic and wiping your hands of the matter completely."
"Totally"
"Totally"
Another ground breaking example of doin' it the old fashioned way and gettin' answers. Looks like you better squeeze your tootsies into that last size six, make sure you like them, and then preorder the right size. You might not get them until late summer, but you can always claim them as Resort sandals.
P.s. Saks has one size eight and a half left. Wanna race?

Solar powered handbags? That is a totally killer idea! C'N'C Costume National designer Ennio Capasa has designed a Solar bag with fine strips of mini solar panels that decorate the front of the bag provide power to a supply concealed in the lining. We are thinking this could be super useful for powering that Macbook Air during fashion week.
If the bloggers with laptops photos cliché wasn't yet dead Vogue Australia is intent on bringing it back. Apparently editor Damien Woolnough is quite fond of his Mac Book Air. We don't notice him twittering though so we are still siding with Patty Huntington on the tech savvy editor front.
Nolita-chic shoe line Sigerson Morrison is opening up shop in Malibu at the Malibu Country Mart. We so want to make sure sort of joke but none of them sounded funny but we think you will get where we are coming from. The store will carry the full Sigerson Morrison line as well as lower-priced Belle and their handbag line.
Its a tough time to be in designer retailing. And not just because the dollar is so weak. Supply chain issues thanks to expansion in the far East may be causing several large design houses to miss delivery dates. Rumored late are Chanel, Zegna, Nina Ricci, Roberto Cavalli and Prada.
American Eagle is so not frat boy chic anymore. In fact they seem to be taking some very scary style cues from on neighbors in Williamsburg. Or at least the ones not so up on the trends. Not that we have anything bad to say about scarves in the summer or blue pastel framed glasses. Just saying the merchandising is dated.
