Scallops were a big trend this Spring 2009 and no designer did it better than Christopher Kane. Now available at Topshop are two dress that take inspiration from Kane's collection, each retailing for $135. Although the high street versions don't make as strong a visual statement, they still convey a sense of weightlessness and modern femininity that we find irresistible.

Think of scallops as the girly-girl's take on futurism and you just might warm up to the idea. The Spring 09 collections by Chloe and Christopher Kane gave birth to this trend while like minded brands like Stella McCartney and lower-tier retailers like Nine West are giving it momentum. We like the more severe and exaggerated scallops although they seem to get watered down once they make it to an accessible price point. We suppose there's always the DIY route!
