We typically don't post about sample sales but since twice as many chicsters will be in town this week, and because Sophomore is one of our favorite basics brands, well, we just have to. If the Barneys Warehouse Sale frightens you, skip over to Circa Now in the East Village in between shows for some cotton basics at serious discounts (we're talking in the 15-90 dollar range). Want to plan ahead? Check out the Sophomore Spring 2009 look book and devise your strategy.

It deserves mention that Gilt Groupe launched into a massive Alexander McQueen sale today. Not only does this appear to be the most plentiful sale to ever hit the site, but the prices are also exceptionally low. If it were anyone else, we'd be thinking pessimistic thoughts but it's McQueen so all we can do is watch these Fall 08 items quickly sell out and smile. Above, three offerings which we predict will be gone by sundown.
With so many markdowns to wade through, there's no telling who will score the unbelievable offers and who will walk home with an ill-fitting dress or an unwanted pair of shoes. Something tells us that every single one of us has landed on both sides of that fence and, that said, we think research is the common denominator. Below, our round up of the ten best deals online right now--they might land on the safe side but we think that's what makes them must-haves. Pricing information and where to buy below each picture.
This shirting drive lets you partake in the madness of sale season, and, participate in a good cause--that's all a gal could ask for during the holiday season. If you should be elsewhere, never fear, Steven Alan is discounted through the brand's various retailers, and, on their website. Now for an act of willpower...for every Steven Alan sale item you buy online, donate something else here or here. See? You might as well have been in New York for the event.
Rag & Bone, always true to its military-inspired aesthetic, has softened things up for their Pre-Fall 2009 collection. Although a switch like this seems more appropriate leading into a Spring season, we're happy to see this new side of the brand. If you're in New York, don't forget to check out the infamous Rag & Bone sample sale, which ends today. Better snatch up those structured coats and dark colors--this Fall, who knows, there may not be much of that to go around.
There are sample sales and then there are showroom sample sales, although you can't expect the prices to be rock-bottom what you'll find in a showroom sample sale is often extra special. First off, it hasn't been stomped on in the dressing room floor a million times over, and second, the inventory often amounts to whatever the designer happened to make in multiples--rather than what the retailer couldn't sell. See where we're going with this? What's more, if you like one brand from a showroom, chances are you'll like them all as it's the showroom's job to not only represent individual brands but have a cohesive aesthetic overall. Needless to say these are definitely worth hitting up. Below, our top three picks from the New York showroom sample sales.
