When word spread that Pheobe Philo wouldn't design Celine's Fall 2009 collection, the fashion world was disappointed. Surprisingly the collection, designed by a team of staff members at Celine, has more than made up for the initial let-down. Oversized ponchos, cropped trousers and jolts of monochrome red are proving to be plenty of fashion eye candy to tide us over. That said, we don't think it's crazy to assume that Philo might have glanced at a Fall 09 sketch or two, making sure the designs set the stage for her break-out collections. Either way, we think Fall 2009 sets a fine stage for Celine's anticipated mid-season and Spring 2010 offerings. Fashionista makes a case for Caroline Kennedy--who has set her sights on the New York Senate seat soon to be departed by Hillary Clinton--and lets us know that this beauty once shaved off her eyebrow in an act of defiance.
We have to give a shout out to our friends at Refinery 29 as they've just pulled together a trend report that has our hearts racing with festive-accessory glee. A veil, as they rightly suggest, might just be the quick-fix for all of your New Years Eve and party-hopping needs. Check out their round up of images from fashion week and beyond, including, of course, veils available for purchase now. Our favorite? This handmade veil comb straight from London...looks like the Luella Spring 2009 collection is appropriating across the pond as fast as can be.
Today Refinery 29 posted another chapter of their fabulous On The List series and pegged an item we are undoubtedly adding to our wish list. We're not sure how we missed this Gloria Bauhaus K Karl Lagerfeld scarf but we're happy we found it post-markdown. The only question in our minds is whether to frame it, wear it, bedazzle it, or be a good gift giver and box up the thing.
We just had to put the Alexandre Herchcovitch Spring 2009 show on our front page today, despite all of the requisite holiday excitement and shopping madness. The Herchcovitch collection was one of our favorites from the Spring 2009 season and presents us with an opportunity to shoutout the blossoming of a trend. Patchwork. It's not our favorite look in the print registry but it is indicative of a greater trend that we're wholeheartedly embracing come spring. Refinery 29 coined it, 'The Summer of 89' and you can find more examples of it in the Opening Ceremony Spring 09 look book.
