Bridal Fashion Week: Reem Acra Spring 09
Reem Acra, a brand exclusively for bridal and evening wear, shows at both Fall and Spring Bridal Week's in New York. This season, namesake designer Reem Acra showed her talent at making high fashion frocks that are still accessible and therefore salable. Even the formal suiting, which one might see as a non-traditional offering, could easily be pitched to wedding planners as chic reception-wear or modern suiting for the mother of the bride. Otherwise, the gowns came in every silhouette and would have suited a plethora of brides. Our favorites were the 1970's inspired pleat-front gown and the long, slinky pleated gown (left) that came thereafter. These pieces called up a subject Reem Acra is most articulate on, that is, those old, romantic visions of what a wedding dress should look like.

Swarovski's Crystallized Wedding Experience
It would seem more than a few New York designers share our sentiment that there is nothing more romantic than a wedding gown covered in Swarovski crystals. Nadja Swarovski along with event designer Preston Bailey, and renowned fashion and accessories designers Monique Lhuillier, Phillip Lim, Anne Barge, Reem Acra, Nicole Miller, Roberta Chiarella, Romona Keveza and the Erickson Beamon design team launched a CRYSTALLIZED™ Wedding Experience last night at Rockefeller Center. An exhibit of one-of-a-kind creations by the world’s leading designers of accessories, fashion, jewelry and interiors embellished with CRYSTALLIZED™ Swarovski Elements, this event was an impressive kick off to New York Bridal Market Week.

New York Spring 2009 Trend Reports: Blue
As much as we tire of saying it, times are hard what with major investment banks going bankrupt and all, so its really not a surprise that so many designers are feeling a little blue about the future. Either that or all the textile mills had a surplus of the stuff and on down the chain of production it went. Either way deep blue from sky to sea were seen on the runways of Badgley Mischka, Reem Acra, Marc Jacobs, Doo.Ri, Rodarte, Iodice, Ports 1961, Carlos Campos, Y3, Alexander Wang, Catherine Holstein, Vanexiana, Alice McCall, and Michael Angel
