New York Fashion Week: Rad Hourani Fall 2009
On Friday Rad Hourani closed New York Fashion Week, delivering dark androgynous looks complete with the designer's soon-eponymous platform boots. The show started with some initial lighting malfunctions, but tight leather trousers, cut-outs, transparencies, mixed fabrics, and leather handbags (cum backpacks) quickly stole the attention back. Hourani used (shock!) color this season too; monochromatic navy looks and shimmering, silver moments had us gasping for breath. New York's goth-y fashion crowd might be saying "Alexander who?" if Hourani keeps delivering collections this good. In all reality though, there's a place for both of these gents in New York. After all, this city can never have enough black.
Quote Of The Day: Rad Hourani Invitation Narrative
I started imagining clothes the same way I started creating images: with a sense of curiosity and innocence driven by my no-background background. No school. No teachers. No telly. No formatting. No boundaries. I like the idea of a world that we could live and shape by ourselves only by observing. Each our own. My clothes have erupted from this world of mine. They are asexual aseasonal they come from no place no time no tradition yet they could be home anywhere anytime. They exude a sense of discreet chic, the essence of timeless style drawn on a monochromatic and graphical canvas. Palette of blacks touches of pure grays and intense dark blues. Sophisticated modern classics for anti-conformist individuals.
