Since we spend the majority of our August days in either a Mexican house dress or one-piece bathing suit, we've decided to play virtual dress up. As much as it pains us, we know fashion week is just around the corner, and that means waaay more running around and waaay less Mexican house dress. We've already started editorializing Fall but since not an overwhelming number of fall deliveries have made it online, it's still worth it to bring you outfits that are both on sale (from spring) and, at least partially, fall weather appropriate. To that end, we're put together this look. For starters, everyone please put down your pencils and check out this Derek Lam bag which is marked down over seventy percent off. It's like a sample sale that no one can see because they can't wrap their minds around it. Be the wise one and snatch that steal up--we're guessing there are only a few. After that insane bargain, the rest will be easy to rationalize. Two Rachel Comey sale items that are totally worth a combined value of just over two hundred dollars and a pair of Acne jeans at 50% off. Those A Pants will be on all of the e-commerce sites (including La Garconne) at full price in the next couple of weeks so you might as well get them on sale now (we know it's crazy but that's the way denim turns over).
Sometimes you just haven't the time for a full weekend away. On those weekends, sitting in the park, or on the deck, roof, or stoop can feel like a mini-vacation. This outfit is inspired by those mini-breaks that make a busy weekend bearable. The real key piece here is the Secrets Of Charm linen dress. A khaki colored dress without much shape can be styled in so many different ways, we think it's a wise thing to invest in. Starting with that, a pair of day heels will make you feel put together without killing your feet. These Rachel Comey Gatsby sandals bring some life to the outfit, keep your feet cool, and are easy to walk in. From there it's all about the extras. Where a no-frills bikini under your dress (you never know when you'll run into a slip and slide) that will look super chic with those shoes should you have to jump up at a moments notice. Finally, some colorful, breezy earrings, a sun hat, and a large structured bag will seal the deal. Inside the bag you'll be able to fit your book and that stack of Thank You cards you've been meaning to send out. A well-planned outfit that looks like a vacation, is the only thing a girl can do when she can't get away. Gals, at least we have that.
Lately we've been really jiving on the concept of 'day heels'. We've recently kicked all of our flats to the curb (well, one part of this team has done so) in favor of the three or so pairs of moderately high sandals we've collected over the past few seasons (one pair by Devotte that has become a straight up staple). It's really the best of both worlds. Your legs look leaner and longer and you can still ride a bike if you have to (or dance, or walk!). That said, these Rachel Comey Aster Heeled Suede Sandals are more than 'on our radar', we're straight up dreaming about them. When a certain boyfriend asks us 'what we're thinking about', we bite our tongue at the prospect of telling him we're thinking of the Asters. Sorry, sweetheart. The shoes come first. Not only are these the perfect example of a comfortable day heel that will take you twenty pain-free blocks if necessary, but their bright red. Like the kind of red you wear with khaki and acid green and eggplant. The kind of red that make your tan little tootsies (complete with nude polish pedicure) look amazing. The kind of red that offsets your animal prints and messy updos, your high waisted denim and cotton shifts, like there's no tomorrow. Sigh, we think we know what we have to do during our lunch break this afternoon. If you're keen on day heels too, check out some of our other favorites, below.
When warm weather first hits people get really excited. Out come the bright prints, the short shorts, the panama hats. There is something to be said, however, for the woman who takes it in stride. She doesn't get all rambunctious and crazy with her wardrobe, she saves the 'Summer is here' outfits for when summer is actually, you know, here. During these spring months she just rolls out on to the street in something that is decidedly optimistic but not over the top. To this end, we think this outfit is something that sort of fashionista might wear. The Mayle Mariachi Sun Bag has the popular Native American thing going on, it's a summertime purse that is still substantial and sturdy, the Rag & Bone Dalton Cropped Pants and Alexander Wang Drop Needle Rainbow Tank evoke a casual and feminine mood, and the Rachel Comey Pimm Oxfords, a bit of menswear to balance things out. Here's to the girl who knows a little bit about how to mix optimism and reserve.
