Shopping: Snakeskin Prints Add Texture
feature · May 29, 2009 · 0 Comments
Snakeskin prints are a cool way to add an element of texture to your outfit without necessarily breaking the bank. From Roberto Cavalli's snakeskin deco print dress, which gives the appearance of actual scales, to a simple cropped blouse from Topshop, this trend can be found at all price points. Pair snakeskin prints with denim or black elements for a crisp summer look.

Digital and abstract prints were a strong trend for the Spring and Fall 2009 seasons and we love the striking black and white options. We recommend pairing these prints with little makeup, sleek hair and a pop of color by way of either your shoes or handbag. When summer clothing starts to feel too flighty, a sharp look like this will balance things out.
Shopping: Printed Boxy Shorts For Summer
feature · April 10, 2009 · 0 Comments
There's a place in every woman's wardrobe for a pair of printed, boxy shorts. We love them because you can dress them up with a crisp white blouse and a men's watch or dress them down with a loose racerback tank and pair of motorcycle boots. They're also great for kicking you out of that inevitable summer dress-rut. Above, a couple of our favorites from the season.

Zero + Maria Cornejo Pre-Fall 2009
feature · December 15, 2008 · 0 Comments
In the most recent issue of The Journal Maria Cornejo talked about her newfound excitement for prints and we are delighted to see so many of them in her Pre-Fall 2009 collection. Judging by her statements in the interview and the appearance of print in her Pre-Fall 2009 collection, we can probably expect some great prints from the Fall 2009 collection. That said, all of those fashion gals who depend on Cornejo for their all-black winter uniform will probably still be in good shape--we doubt the designer will abandon her aesthetic completely.

Who Said The Print Is Dead? Uh, No One.
July 29, 2008 · 0 Comments
We're pretty sure it would be the end of fashion as we know it if the print were, in fact, dead. That's kind of like saying that pants are dead or shoes are dead. Last time we checked, no one was trying to make this world a monochromatic one. We kid, sort of. So another trend gallery has been made (we love how fast it is for online publications to whip these us when the glossies take an entire month and by then you're like, "Uh, yeah. I'm completely aware that harem pants are in style") declaring the print officially not dead. It's a revelation people. Listen, there are ways to make this more specific (and thereby meaningful). First we could articulate which prints are still alive and which are 'dead'. We could also articulate just where the prints are living, because this is not the same season after season.
That said, one thing we've noticed, after organizing our wardrobe this weekend (It was a true nightmare--arms were nearly lost.), is that on the side of the closet where delicate tanks, skirts, and frocks live; the prints are in abundance. One the other side of the closet, where the jeans are stacked and long sleeve blouses hung, the palette is almost entirely a solid one. Say what? How did this happen? We're hoping we're not the only one's who tend to veer towards the solids when it comes to winter separates and get kind of print-astic when it's warm outside. Below, some print options for those of us who subconsciously print on a bias (hehe).
Pulling It All Together
July 21, 2008 · 0 Comments
As part of Berlin Fashion Week, Basso & Brooke put together a retrospective which styled eight season's worth of clothing together in one show. Into the blender they went and out they came, undeniably Basso & Brooke and with such dizzying combinations of print and color and layering that we're pretty sure that whole plaid on plaid thing won't be such a big deal anymore. The 'collection' was absolutely stunning and welcomed after a season of transparencies and monochromatic nude looks. We can't help but think it must have been extra fun (and maybe not as laborious as it appears?) for the designers Christopher Brooke and Bruno Basso to sift through their previous collections and pick out their favorite pieces to re-show. We were happy to see this orange jacket from their Fall 08 show make it into the retrospective (left). If only because it made us like the darn thing ten times more, and debunked our initial impression which was 'Now how could you possibly wear that without the matching orange tights?'. We kid. Obviously this jacket can stand all on its own and so, it seems, can a lot of Basso & Brooke's designs. Take a moment to marvel. Poking Fun

We have always admired women that effortlessly combine prints. We can barely even stomach wearing one print let along pull off the styling miracle that strong print combinations require. But we were impressed by how easy SheFind's Guide to Wearing Multiple Prints was to follow. She has a few fantastic combinations we feel like we could pull off. We particularly liked her advice to choose similar prints in different sizes.
We combined a Dolce and Gabana Polka Dot Mini Skirt, C&C Dotted Jersey Tank, and Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Studded Cardigan. We threw in a Kate Spade 'Marceau - Malva' Soft Hobo that just happens to have a polka dot lining for fun and topped (bottomed?) it off with Marc Jacobs Collection Brushed Patent d'Orsay Pumps. Overall we think it looks pretty darn good. We guess combining prints isn't so hard after all!
