Although not exactly budget friendly, these four statement coats are ideal rivals to winter's ubiquitous black overcoat. This season we'll be taking inspiration from Preen's shearling fur details, Halston's cape-style coat and obi belt, and Rick Owens' strong leather shoulders.
Preen's Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi presented a collection of breezy, textured dresses and separates for the Preen spring 2010 collection, offering fans an update on fall's wildly successful asymmetrical body con dress.
This season the duo focused on designing with lighter fabrics and gently turning up the romance. Matted panels of ruffles (seen on shoulders as delicate epaulettes or exaggerating the hip) were strong statements, as were iridescent fabrics and lace — the former layered under the latter for a sequin effect.
Serpentine ropes also made an impact, draping around the body to connect contrasting panels and creating graphic necklines in bubble gum pink, gray and black.
To further illustrate spring's ligther tone, Thornton and Bregazzi introduced diaphanous looks with a selection of light-as-air dresses and tops in black, white, and yellow — most striking in the aforementioned pink, and in an elegant black A-line dress with three shoulder straps.
Although being a favorite of the fashion press doesn't always translate into financial success, the sold out status of Preen's fall merchandise is a pretty good indication that Thorton and Bregazzi just might have the best of both worlds.
Is it me or is it hot in here? Net-a-Porter challenged Preen Line to create a must-have dress for under $500. They succeeded — $380, to be exact. This Vogue-featured frock is undeniably Preen, from the lace-up detail to the asymmetrical shoulder. It can be found in NAP's Designer Exclusives section where you can sign up to be alerted when it's ready for the taking.
Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi's Resort collection for their label, Preen, was focused on cool dressing and sex appeal. That meant clothing was either slinky and loose or tight and short--both foolproof combinations for an it-girl. Modeled by Tatiana Cotliar, who bears a resemblance to Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, the collection reworked some of Preen's most popular designs.

This season, with the ruffle trend at full force, strong red dresses have been rendered in softer silhouettes. Pair these frocks with nude pumps and black eyeliner for a classic but updated evening look. Preen's Silk Ray Dress might be our favorite this season, but for something a little less costly, we also fancy the offerings from contemporary labels 3.1 Phillip Lim and Caroline Hedaya.
This season's little black dress comes in as many varieties as ever but this time around they're rendered with mesh. Whether you're going for the power babe, body-con Alexander Wang look or something more demure and geometric like Acne's version you can pretty much find what you want. We especially love this look with dewy, minimal makeup and bare legs--it certainly makes the old LBD routine seem fresh again.

In 2009, when you hear "diffusion line" your mind may jump to price points which linger around $100--but let Preen educate you on their bottom-line. This contemporary diffusion line, called Preen Line, debuted in Copenhagen last February to many drooling Preen fans. Now that the recession has hit, being able to justify a four hundred dollar cotton dress (especially when Lanvin pumps are going for less than that over at Barneys) may not come as easy as it did last year--but we're pretty sure that only accounts for some of us. After all, that pink jersey dress sold out in less than 24 hours.
