Ports 1961 Opens In The Meatpacking District
Speaking of Ports 1961--who showed a Fall 2009 collection in the tents last night--they've also opened up a brand new store in the Meatpacking District located on the ever-popular Gansevoort Street. To showcase the brand's colorful worldly aesthetic the space is outfitted with handmade carpets, warm walnut flooring, and floor-to-ceiling glass walls. The second floor of the building will play host to art openings and other special events while the third floor will serve as Cibani's design studio.

Ports 1961 Travels To India This Fall 2009
A little piece of news appeared in our inbox this morning...Ports 1961 will be looking to India for inspiration this Fall 2009. The brief note proclaimed the collection would be inspired by "the Mughal courts of India", which means the collection should take on a rather formal, aristocratic vantage point. Ports 1961, established in 2004, is a luxury brand which focuses on a different culture or geographic region each season. From Tanzania to Iceland, Ports has been there. At left, a sketch from the upcoming India-inspired collection.

New York Spring 2009 Trend Reports: Blue
As much as we tire of saying it, times are hard what with major investment banks going bankrupt and all, so its really not a surprise that so many designers are feeling a little blue about the future. Either that or all the textile mills had a surplus of the stuff and on down the chain of production it went. Either way deep blue from sky to sea were seen on the runways of Badgley Mischka, Reem Acra, Marc Jacobs, Doo.Ri, Rodarte, Iodice, Ports 1961, Carlos Campos, Y3, Alexander Wang, Catherine Holstein, Vanexiana, Alice McCall, and Michael Angel
