Fall 2009 Fashion Week Updates: Celine Up In The Air & More
The first full week after the holidays has proven to be quite interesting, today more Fall 09 Fashion Week news unfolds...
Yesterday, it was announced that Peter Som had split from his backers at Creative Design Studio. Today we discover that Som will still produce his Fall 09 collection although it will not be shown during New York Fashion Week.
The following designers are slated to show in the tents at Bryant Park this season; Adam by Adam Lippes, Monarchy, William Rast, Barbie, George Chakra, Tommy Hilfiger, Yigal Azrouel, Brian Reyes, and J. Mendel are among the fifty-odd designers on the official Bryant Park schedule.
The highly-anticipated Celine Fall 09 collection in which Pheobe Philo was thought to make her debut as Creative Director of the brand is now in question. Rumors circulate that Philo is clashing with new management prompting representatives at Celine to comment, "Pheobe's debut show will be in October".
Thirteen of Japan's most prominent up-and-coming designers will show in New York on January 27th. Normally, one might worry that everyone will be in Paris for the couture shows--but, as we know, that shouldn't be a problem this season.

Fashion In 50 Seconds 11/21/08 Bill Blass Closes, Target Collabs, Romeo Gigli's New Line, Holiday Window Madness
Bill Blass New York has stopped taking Spring 09 orders and is liquidating. On October 28th it was officially announced that Peter Som would be parting ways with the company, after a whirlwind of reports that NexCen was in deep financial waters, and news that Som had resigned, back in the spring. As far eulogies go, the New York Times wrote one when they covered Michael Vollbracht's Spring 09 presentation at New York Fashion Week.
Romeo Gigli, Italian designer, will launch a new line called io ipse idem. The designer is famous for coining the term 'cocooning' and was popular in the 1980's when Italian Vogue editor Carla Sozzani helped launch his career.
Two new Target collaborations have been slated in the accessories department. Handbag brand Felix Ray and footwear designer Trish Carroll will both launch diffusion collections this Spring.
New York's window displays have turned out to be as fantastic as ever--despite across the board losses in the retail market. The answer is simple: some cheering up is in order.

WWD wrote today on the modern, laid-back cool that we can expect under new leadership. A photo gallery includes photos of Obama and his family wearing nice clothing and gliding to their various destinations like teenagers.
Across the pond, The International Herald Tribune has a debate with itself about weather the Narciso Rodriguez Spring 2009 dress that Michelle Obama wore on election night was a "do" or a "don't". In the end the paper decides that more fashion fun is on the way.
In other, less fantastical news, a new art/fashion magazine, called Tar, has hit the scene and it's started its life out with Ryan McGinley spreads and loads of those elusive advertisements everyone's been talking about lately.
In the wake of his departure from Bill Blass, Peter Som has started in the capsule/collaboration business with a small line of children's clothing for the brand Best & Co. We're guessing at this point the man just wants to move fast and make some money.

Peter Som officially parted ways with Bill Blass, owned by NexCen Brands Inc, and there are horror stories about embroiderers not getting paid to prove it. NexCen scraped Som's Spring 09 runway show, which was when the news leaked that Som would be leaving.
Today we learned ten reasons why we should be shopping again and, more importantly, that Net-a-Porter is opening an "outlet and sample sale priced sister site" called theoutnet.com. This is bigger than Topshop.
Moschino celebrates their 25th and Rossella Jardini, the low-profile Creative Director behind the brand, talks about her approach to fashion. Moschino; known for its playful style, and Jardini; who is not impressed with the so-called glamorous life, are a match made in heaven. Unless you call luxury price points glamorous.
