Bright, Contrasting Colors and Rich Embroideries at Oscar de la Renta Fall 2010

Despite the prominence of monochromatic color palettes on the runway this season-gray and camel from Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors, mostly black from Vera Wang and Donna Karan-Oscar de la Renta's fall 2010 collection was jam packed with vibrant, contrasting colors.

Models were decked out in rainbow brights (take for instance an orchid alpaca jacket with a cinnamon raccoon collar worn on top of a magenta blouse) and made up like eighties glamour girls with blown out feathered hair and glossy red lips. The Dynasty moment carried through in a series of dramaticly bustled cocktail dresses, especially an emerald strapless gown worn with a while rabbit stole and diamond and velvet booties.

Jessica Biel and her stylist sat in the front row, no doubt selecting looks for upcoming red carpet appearances. She swooned over most of the collection, and if we had our choice, Biel would end up in this simply elegant lace jacquard dress with embroidery.

Marc Jacobs filed a copyright infringement complaint against Ed Hardy's quilted tote with stitched block print, which bears resemblance to a Marc by Marc Jacobs bag-save for the Ed Hardy tattoo-print fish splashed on the side.

Tom Ford on what separates his fashion imagery from his directorial debut: "My fashion career has been very much about full frontal male and female nudity and sex. For me, A Single Man is about love and romance, and had there been a need for that kind of nudity, then sure - but there wasn't."

Giles Deacon interviews Victoria Beckham in the spring "Fashion Icons" issue of Love. The 336-page magazine will be available next Monday.

Charlotte Ronson agreed to move her NYFW runway show at Bryant Park to accommodate Naomi Campbell. Campbell is hosting a Fashion for Relief event to benefit victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Tickets to which will be available to American Express cardmembers tomorrow.

Stylist Amanda Ross has been named fashion director of W Hotels.

Karlie Kloss lands the spring Oscar de la Renta advertising campaign, and Lara Stone stars in a video for Versus by Versace fragrance.

Creative director Nathan Jenden leaves Diane von Furstenberg in order to focus on his own collection. His successor is Yvan Mispelaere, who has worked with Pheobe Philo and Frida Giannini.

Zac Posen's company is in survival mode but that doesn't mean the designer will agree to pose in Harper's Bazaar next to Count Dracula.

Oscar de la Renta's Russian Fairy Tale

Anything but understated, Oscar de la Renta presented a collection of Russian fairy tale-inspired looks for his Upper East Side ladies in canary yellow, crimson, pink, and turquoise accessorized with knotted scarves-best in canary ikat-and embroidered cardigans. For evening, de la Renta offered full-on drama in a floor length patchwork skirt paired with a ruffled chiffon blouse and cocktail dresses covered in sequins and paillettes.

Runway Report: Oscar de la Renta Spring 2010

Fashion editors and buyers headed to the upper east side of Manhattan this afternoon for Oscar de la Renta's spring 2010 collection.

We imagine Oscar de la Renta's shows feel similar to runway presentations of the past-the models walk at a slower pace along a raised runway, and thanks to two back to back showings, the crowd is smaller and controlled-a welcome change of scene at the end of a hectic week in the tents.

For spring 2010 Oscar de la Renta told WWD, he was designing "clothes for a modern woman-fresh and feminine." Surely his uptown clientele will be pleased with his elegant display of 53 looks, many presented in lovely jewel tones of teal or purple. Also using plenty of metallics, black, and white, some of de la Renta's most standout pieces displayed delicate details-a white silk crochet knit with a tweed embroidered skirt and jacket would look modern and appropriate on expensive ladies who lunch, as would a stunning white belted sheath with hyacinth and black floral print embroidery. Also of note, belted coats, safari jackets, and the evening dresses that closed the show-looking most new in black lace or tulle with a peak of a peridot bandeau underneath.

Orlando Pita coiffed model's hair into swiss miss braids (a la Yulia Tymoshenko, the Ukrainian Prime Minister) or covered it in slanted hats by Patricia Underwood and black and white lace veils and headscarfs.

Net-a-Porter Teams Up With Oscar

Net-a-Porter just debuted a new interview within their newly launched video section--this time with iconic designer Oscar de la Renta. The segment includes touching commentary from de la Renta juxtaposed with photos which span his career. Although the release wasn't timed with a big push into de la Renta's Fall collection, there are still six fabulous Oscar de la Renta items to choose from right now.

Fall 2009 Look Book: Moises de la Renta, Oscar's Son

Like father like son is not the case for Oscar de la Renta and his designer son Moises. The latter's debut collection has finally hit the web and it couldn't look more dissimilar to daddy's sophisticated designs. After all, Moises' muse and model for the line - American rock singer Lissy Trullie - is no priss herself. I would be interested know Oscar's thoughts on his son's punky creations and whether or not he offered up advice.
