In The Showroom: Ideeen Spring 2009
Ideeen's Spring 2009 collection was based on a dream, with each delivery marking a different stage in the experience. The collection starts out with powdery nudes and soft, feminine layering. Next, elements of darkness follow the cloud-like beginning and bring the collection into a stage where draping, color, and print are experimented with. The New York-based Japanese design duo behind this brand, Junko Hirata and Atsuko Yanase, met when they were working for designer Catherine Malandrino. With just a few seasons under their belt, Ideeen has received critical acclaim from both buyers and press. To see the Spring 09 look book, click here. Complex Geometries Spring 2009 Look Book
We first learned about the contemporary brand, Complex Geometries, last Spring when their cotton hooded t-shirts and dresses started flying off the OAK shelves. Thinking this particular garment was the most brilliant of packable, easy to wear, things we wondered what else the brand had to back up their name. This Spring 09 season shows that they have, in fact, quite a lot. This brand is the young, sexy version of any department store company that attempts to sell women six garments for all of their travel needs. A young chicster, that is, might take simply a pair of jeans, moccasins, peep-toe ankle boots, and three of four Complex Geometries garments and be set for, let's see, an entire fashion week.
