Some of the most memorable looks to hit the international runways this month were detailed in all kinds and colors of fur—a white mongolian lamb cuff here, an orange-splashed fox fur mini skirt there—and of our favorite handbags and shoes of the season followed suit. Think Michael Kors' soft cross body satchels, Karl Lagerfeld's Nanook of the North boots and matching chain strap handbag for Chanel, and Thakoon's fur-trimmed open-toe booties. Click below for a gallery of some of the most luxurious finishing details for fall 2010.

Marc Jacobs presented his take on the classic gray flannel three-piece suit during New York Fashion Week as did Michael Kors—both designed relaxed, slouchy variations on the Eighties working girl look. Alexander Wang took things further into the future with his midriff bearing jacket and thigh-high legwarmers. Over at 3.1 Phillip Lim the cropped jacket was collarless and the trousers high-waisted and loose-fitting. The silhouettes may vary, but the message is clear—the power suit is back.
Inspired by Helmut Newton photographs, the Michael Kors pre-fall collection is heavy on feminine looks with architectural details. His updated little black dresses—one with lace cutouts and another made with a detachable leather peplum belt—should be big hits when released in 2010.

Nothing says festive evening quite like a few sequins, velvet animal print, and draped detailing. To help you decide what to wear now that your events calendar is filling up, we've picked our eight favorite cocktail party looks in the gently draped category (which is pretty flattering on most). From vibrant jewel-tones (Yves Saint Lauren), to anything-but-basic black (Michael Kors) and full-on sequins (Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, and La Petite S*****), here's to a well-dressed party season.
This year, Michael Kors showed a more urban Resort collection than is typical of his jet-set aesthetic. Office appropriate dresses and suits with strong shoulders that were cinched with obi belts made the strongest statement while there were calmer, earthier elements of the collection to balance things out. Swimsuits and caftans were not discounted--just in case his jet-set woman does make it out of the city for a weekend.
The good news is in this crazy, terrible economy, I think people’s taste is getting better. They have to think about what they buy and they’re getting a more discerning eye because of it. There are no more shoes you can’t walk in, bags you can’t carry, dresses you can’t sit in...I equate [the current climate] to late-Seventies New York. I was young, excited and I had no idea that I was moving to New York just as the city was on the verge of bankruptcy. Crime was at its worst. The world was ending. But it was actually a very creative moment for New York. Creative people — whether it’s fashion, film, music, art — are going to have to try a little harder. We’re going to see this strange combination of creativity and pragmatism. That’s good news.
