Matthew Williamson Debuts His First Menswear Collection In Stores Next Month

Having designed a few menswear pieces as part of his collaboration with H&M last year, Matthew Williamson is jumping full-on into the menswear category with his new designer collection. Hitting Matthew Williamson stores and Harrods' next month, the lineup features Williamson's signature color-drenched graphics-in star and paisley print silk scarves-and vivid basics like cashmere sweaters in electric blue, bright pink, and neon green. According to Williamson, he will follow up next season with more formal offerings such as "suits, shirts, and jackets" if this collection is well-received.

After a hard-and in our case, most likely life threatening-run down the mountain, it is always a joy to wrap up in winter's coziest separates and hit the lodge for a well-deserved après ski hot toddy. Stirrup leggings and serious snow boots are necessary to fight off the chill, while Proenza Schouler's chunky pullover and Matthew Williamson's wrap scarf just make us really happy.

Although not exactly budget friendly, these four statement coats are ideal rivals to winter's ubiquitous black overcoat. This season we'll be taking inspiration from Preen's shearling fur details, Halston's cape-style coat and obi belt, and Rick Owens' strong leather shoulders.

Matthew Williamson Designs Spring 2010 Accessory Collection with Atelier Swarovski

Matthew Williamson debuted his first accessory collection in collaboration with Atelier Swarovski on the runway for spring 2010.

Williamson's inspiration for the crystal cuffs, breastplate necklaces, and evening clutches was drawn from the artist Jim Lambie, who is best know for arranging brightly colored tape into geometric patterns. As a result the accessory collection consists of vibrantly colored, oversized graphic pieces-much in line with Williamson's signature aesthetic.

For the spring collections Atelier Swarovski also worked with Zaha Hadid (zigzag-shaped rings), Jason Wu (sculptural necklaces) and Nicholas Kirkwood to create exclusive crystal jewelry and accessories. Past designer collaborations have included Christopher Kane, Doo.Ri Chung, Hussein Chalayan, Giles Deacon, Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, and Philip Crangi.

The thing Matthew Williamson has going for him when it comes to resort is that his signature aesthetic is vaguely "tropical island" in the first place. For Resort 2010 he sent out a combination of candy colors and bright, electric prints. Some pieces were subtly beaded while others had dramatic embroidery. Considering that Williamson's price point is on the high end of designer, we much prefer his softer, more subdued expressions. Two of our favorites, above.

Matthew Williamson will not show in New York this Spring 2010, but in London for its 25th anniversary.

The Fall 2009 Christian Dior Couture show will be staged at the first Christian Dior store in Paris.

Christian Lacroix wrote a letter to the firm's 125 employees, saying that he will give "200 percent" to keep the couture house alive.

New York's cover story this week is entitled "Si Newhouse's Dream Factory" and discusses the fate of Condé Nast.

Matthew Williamson's Second H&M Delivery Hits Stores Today

In case you're spending your Thursday shopping on the high street, Matthew Williamson's second delivery for H&M hit shelves today. As compared with the designer's first release, which landed in only 200 stores worldwide, the summer collection will reach 1600 stores worldwide. As for the turn out in New York this morning, Racked reports that inventory was plentiful and that cheaper items were more popular than items like the floral silk dress (left) which, at $349, went virtually untouched.
