Israeli designer Lia Kes nails major spring themes in her most recent collection. Her easy evening dresses are among our favorite uncomplicated, wear anywhere options from the line up—in silk and knit with subtle shoulder padding and an asymmetrical hem. Also of interest from Kes' fifth collection—ruched micro skirts, graphic racer-back tanks, and a silk wide-leg jumper—each in a subtle color palette of gunmetal, black, white, and blue.
The Riviera Club menswear look book reminds us just how much we love the laid back vintage style of Southern California surfers. In their debut collection, friends and designers Derek Buse, Greg Ullery, and Joe Sadler looked to a man named Bucker Spreckels—a real life Los Angeles party boy who spent his multimillion dollar inheritance surfing around the globe and chasing women before dying very young—as inspiration for the spring 2010 collection. Each season the boys of Riviera Club have vowed to search for a different real-life or mythical muse, hopefully without losing their specific brand of West Coast charm.
Jeffrey Monteiro recently released his Spring 2010 look book. We had a peek not too long ago at his colorful resort designs, and his latest effort includes all the season's top trends from leather to neutrals and over-sized blazers.
Knitwear designer, Madeleine Thompson's new look book features friend and muse, British model Poppy Delevigne. In her namesake line of cashmere separates—think striped A-line tank dresses, pastel-colored loungewear and cozy oversized cardigans—Thompson fills our need for luxurious, everyday comfort pieces. Fans of the collection, which launched in 2007, include Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, and Lily Donaldson.
Natalia Kuks-Jacobs and Gabriela Perezutti-Isacson—born in Argentina and Uruguay, respectively—have been designing New York-based clothing and accessory label Candela since 2004. For spring 2010 we love their straight-from-the-Estancia look book, especially the tiered floral skirts and handkerchief hem dresses paired with ankle boots and rancher hats.
New York-based designer Rachel Antonoff's Holiday 2010 collection is all about cocktail party sophistication. Her look book, shot at the kayak pier on the Hudson River, shows off sculptural separates and frocks that will surely please her clients come winter. If you've seen Antonoff's previous look books, or her Fall 2009 video, then you know the kind of quirky-cool presentation that is her signature. Between her chic, modern designs and creative photographic escapades, there's nothing not to like.
Like father like son is not the case for Oscar de la Renta and his designer son Moises. The latter's debut collection has finally
hit the web and it couldn't look more dissimilar to
daddy's sophisticated designs. After all, Moises' muse and model for the line — American rock singer Lissy Trullie — is no priss herself. I would be interested know Oscar's thoughts on his son's punky creations and whether or not he offered up advice.
H&M's upcoming Divided Exclusive collection, and now their Jimmy Choo collaboration, might be stealing the spotlight but their regular Fall 2009 range is trè chic. Here's a peak at the look book, which artfully styles Divided Exclusive and regular H&M pieces together. With the menswear shows starting next week and the Spring 2010 season looming, we think it might be time to actually start thinking about buying fall clothing.
This Fall, Phillip Lim sent a slew of sixties inspired looks down the runway. With so many outfits to digest, we've been eagerly awaiting the arrival of a look book on the designer's website. Finally, a sixty-odd page spread has landed on the site, clearing up all of our break-away coat questions and then some. Delightfully, the look book features model-of-the-moment Tao Okamoto, who inspired the bowl cut wigs featured in Lim's runway show.
