La Garconne Launches Pre-Fall Look Book
We just happened upon La Garconne's recently-launched Pre-Fall 2009 look book and it actually has us excited for fall. The French-chic editorial pays homage to outerwear and Alexander Wang and features some items available for purchase and some presumably in the La Garconne pipeline. We're happy to see their colorless inventory illuminated with a well-styled editorial. Check out the look book below.
La Garçonne Adds Spring/Summer Sale Section
Most online retailers have a year round sale section. Such is not the case with La Garçonne. So as you can imagine, its Spring/Summer sale is a special treat. The sweetest pieces we're after are Alexander Wang's boxy oversized romper ($396, originally $565), VPL's drogue knit top ($228, originally $325) and Rachel Comey's winnie slingback wedges ($242, originally $345). There are also a few baby clothes for those fashion forward tots in your life. Erin Wasson X RVCA Finally Dropped
One month after its alleged launch date, the Erin Wasson for RVCA Spring 2009 collection is finally hitting the retail floor. We hear that the collection just landed on shelves at Opening Ceremony in New York, although the pieces are not on their just-launched e-commerce site yet. As for other e-commerce retailers, a source at La Garconne tell us that they've just received the goods and will be shooting them and putting them online within the next week or so.
To see Wasson's Fall 2009 range for RVCA, check out our photo gallery from the presentation.

La Garconne Pushes Out The Editorial
New sections of the La Garconne e-commerce site have been added, just in time for fall. The new horizontal menu at the bottom of the front page called Le Magazine is comprised of four editorial sections. "Moods & Trends", as you might have guessed, is a series of trend reports which call up La Garconne product as evidence. "Garconne We Love", is a 'lifestyle' kind of section where a starlet or 'style icon' is made into a girly collage, complete with like minded products. The grammatically curious "Designer We Love" pulls up a brand page easily enough but in this space the page is enhanced with images and interviews, and "Editorial", shows photo spreads which pull together new items in an atmosphere that says 'this is who we are'. So, for the first editorial from La Garconne we got exactly what we were asking for. Namely, a sinewy, pale skinned model, lounging on plush bedding, bathed in white sunlight, donning Mayle purses, Acne jeans, and Sigerson Morrison flats. We're curious how many bells and whistles La Garconne can add to its front page before it's less minimalist gamine and more, well, Net-a-Porter. Sale Outfit Of The Day
Since we spend the majority of our August days in either a Mexican house dress or one-piece bathing suit, we've decided to play virtual dress up. As much as it pains us, we know fashion week is just around the corner, and that means waaay more running around and waaay less Mexican house dress. We've already started editorializing Fall but since not an overwhelming number of fall deliveries have made it online, it's still worth it to bring you outfits that are both on sale (from spring) and, at least partially, fall weather appropriate. To that end, we're put together this look. For starters, everyone please put down your pencils and check out this Derek Lam bag which is marked down over seventy percent off. It's like a sample sale that no one can see because they can't wrap their minds around it. Be the wise one and snatch that steal up--we're guessing there are only a few. After that insane bargain, the rest will be easy to rationalize. Two Rachel Comey sale items that are totally worth a combined value of just over two hundred dollars and a pair of Acne jeans at 50% off. Those A Pants will be on all of the e-commerce sites (including La Garconne) at full price in the next couple of weeks so you might as well get them on sale now (we know it's crazy but that's the way denim turns over).
Zucca Nylon Taffeta Dress
This morning, when we popped onto La Garconne to see what had posted over the weekend, 'oh la la' dribbled out of our mouths. La Garconne has a clean little way of editorializing their products. It's a simple splash, like the one we have on our front page, which shows a garment of note. Although we wholeheartedly agree with the way sites like Net-a-Porter editorialize their goods, we also have a soft spot for La Garconne's tidy, honest personality a la their front page. What helps give this simple design a little more panache is when the garment being featured is bright and wild like this Zucca Nylon Taffeta Dress.
Zucca is part of La Garconne's new Atelier section. The line, started by Onozuka Akira (protege of Issey Miyake) in 1989, is known for embodying the modern Japanese aesthetic which plays with proportion and textile at the expense of giving consumers those 'pretty cocktail dresses' they love so much. The Zucca dress is no exception. We'd expect someone with a lot of personality to show up to an event in this dress...she would likely be referred to as The Gal In A Blazing Taffeta Dress and she'd easy to spot standing in a sea of girls wearing their Herve Ledger and Louboutin outfits.
