Our favorite shoe style from the Spring 09 shows, as perfectly demonstrated by Phillip Lim and Christian Louboutin, is the ruffle front heel. We have become so enchanted by this style that we set about finding a similar look in the meantime. Prada, of course, paved the way with ruffled handbags and shoes this Fall 08. The small but lovely Loeffler Randall was thinking a step ahead of the curve with pleat-like ruffles on many of their shoes this season. Jeffrey Campbell, always right on trend, also put out some ruffle inspired footwear. Despite these more than adequate examples, we have to admit, we still can't wait for the real thing.
There's nothing more in fashion right now that shoes that are as tough as nails--whether it's seven inch heels, three inch platforms, studs, straps, or zippers, eye-catching shoes should be the starting point of a Fall 08 wardrobe. If you can't spend upwards of six hundred on this trend we think Jeffrey Campbell is a safe bet. The line is priced just around one hundred dollars and rarely looks like knocked off. Pair these shoes with faux-leather leggings, baggy jeans, or the most feminine skirt.
Could there be more evidence of a multi-color peep toe trend than the examples set before us in this spread--we think not! When the prices range from one hundred to one thousand, there's no questioning it. Pair these shoes with black opaque tights and the colors will pop in contrast. Our two favorites: the Miu Miu pair is a holiday dream come true and the pair from Bebe a sharp geometric option.
For the sake of convenience we're going to pretend we didn't see these Jimmy Choo Glenys Python Sandals. We're going to pretend we didn't see them because for once we actually prefer the low-end version. Jeffery Campbell who makes super comfortable and super affordable trendy shoes, has taken this Choo shoe and exaggerated its look. We're pretty sure there are twice as many straps as the Choo, we're pretty sure the Campbell version is one of the darn sexiest Fall 08 sandals we've seen to date. The Marly Black Patent Leather Platform is a mere $110 (compare that to the Choo at $1,550) and will serve you well when it's still warm enough for sandals though a chill in the air calls for something a little more dense than a flimsy summer heel. Below, the top five strap-happy sandals we've been eying, at a diverse range of price points.
We saw these faux-python sandals on three different women this weekend. No kidding. When we heard they were Jeffrey Campbell we knew exactly why. These deep brown slip-on sandals are a mere seventy dollars and look great in person. If you want to escape the confines of Dolce Vita (and, gasp, Steve Madden), but are limited to the 'Under 100' shoe budget, this brand is your best bet (try also, Matiko). This sandal is attractive because it touches on the gladiator trend, without making the same statement that the knee-high versions do, and, just like heels and boots, having a simple brown and black sandal in your wardrobe, will free-up your styling options. Seventy dollars for a conservative take on a trend, in a basic color that will do your wardrobe wonders, is worth the investment in our book. More Jeffrey Campbell options below.
