Fall 2009 Trend Report: Half And Fingerless Gloves

Prepare For An Accessories Heavy Season
We can already assume that the Fall 2009 collections will be heavy with accessories, especially if the Pre-Fall collections by Proenza Schouler, Balenciaga, and Nina Ricci (pictured left, respectively) are any indication. In all three collections gloves pulled their share of the weight, allowing more basic clothing to still appear 'high fashion'. Also contributing were new it-bags, statement shoes, and furs.

Life is A Dirty Job So Wear Gloves
There were certain accessories woman of substance was never seen without, well at least a century ago, and a few trend setting houses are resurrecting some of those historical anachronism accessories for Spring 2009 starting with the day glove. The Rodarte sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy have always been prone to historical flights of fancy so its little surprise that we first picked up the trend there but when Consuelo Castiglioni showed it on the Marni catwalk we really perked up, and we declared it an official emerging trend when it appeared on Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel catwalk. But the most curious place we saw it? Alessandra Facchinetti had jeweled day gloves for Valentino. We guess all that trend setting must have been too much for the house of Valentino.
