As a non-subscriber to Nylon (no offense!) imagine our surprise when we received notice that "our April issue of Nylon Magazine" would be sent us digitally. Confusion, so much confusion. It appears as though Nylon is moving their subscribers over to online format but if they contest (by calling customer service) they will be switched back to a hard copy subscription. Nylon, who just celebrated their 10th anniversary and launched a Mexico version of the magazine, is now offering online subscriptions for $4.95 per year in contrast to a hard copy subscription which costs a whopping $19.95 per year. Sounds like a fine plan to us but talk about coming out of left field...

There's a new British magazine set to launch thanks to Conde Nast UK and Pop's Katie Grand, called Love. The magazine will staff other members of the Pop masthead and a few peripheral big wigs from the likes of i-D and Heat. Fashionologie has all of the details, right here.
A Few Goody Gumdrops has the low-down on Bluefly's obligatory Fall sale and 40% off is nothing to scoff at. Check out her posting, right here.
If you think Fish Oil will help improve your skin, think again. The Beauty Brains has the official documents to prove that the supplement bears no results.
Kiss And Makeup names the Best Concealer as part of their Beauty Awards 2008 series. For 18 pounds sterling it ought to be.
Not Without A Fight: Dazed Teenage Takeover
Magazines turning themselves into valuable artifacts, reeling in the long-form-with-nothing-to-lose identity they have been forced to embrace, are coming up with pretty clever ways to draw in new readership (and their loyal advertisers). One such example happens to be coming from Dazed, whose website, DazedDigital, is far from an 'online presence'--it is actually something the magazine has to, in a sense, live up to. For the January issue Britain's under 18s have been asked to design a cover which somehow illustrates what it means to be young and British today. Hedi Slimane happens to have shot all of the fashion for this issue over the course of three days and it is suggested, not required, that participants use Slimane's photographs as a starting point. This contest was borne from an overwhelming response to a writing contest on the same topic for the same issue... consider our interest piqued.

The fashion industry lived large for a weekend at the Victoria's Secret 2008 fashion show in Miami at the newly restored Fontainbleu hotel. Aside from the lavishness of a pre-show concert and the hotel itself, the fashion show had an estimated budget of 15 million dollars. Check out our runway gallery, right here.
Meanwhile, in New York...rumors are swirling that Nylon will fold and Blackbook has fired their Creative Director, Bryan Erikson, and replaced him with Jason Daniels who comes from a luxury background.
Lutz & Patmos has recently launched their e-commerce site and it is, thankfully, straightforward and easy-to-use. Perhaps their wise decision to keep things simple stems from the fact that the brand has yet to open its own freestanding store. As a result, the site pivots on line sheet drawings (those which are given to buyers so that they can see what the garment actually looks like) and other intuitive selling functions.
British designers Jasper Conran and Mulberry, among others, are campaigning for increased funding to London's design schools so that students can learn how to actually, well, make things. An ever-increasing focus on conceptual design (rather than production) has left many students without the skills necessary to work for a fashion company after graduation.
