This Spring 09 we fell in love with a long floral maxi skirt and slouchy cotton tank from designer Jenni Kayne. We find this look casual and elegant and especially attractive as it would work on a variety of body types and on women of all ages. Pair a long skirt with a masculine top in the winter and with a thin tank in the summer and you'll be chic and sophisticated. Some of our favorite examples, above. There are certain fashion comforts that are steadfast and buffalo plaid is most certainly one of them--this classic, over-sized check is most commonly seen in red or white and, despite tantalizing examples in other color combinations, we just can't argue against tradition. Like riding boots, pea coats, and white cotton t-shirts--buffalo plaid has a place in everyone's wardrobe. Thankfully, you can find this check on every type of garment from price points high and low. When we saw these red Lolita-esque sunglasses come down the Fall 2008 Phillip Lim runway we couldn't wait to see them on shelves. The red framed Margot glasses are part of Lim's second eyewear collection and, just based on their uniqueness, we think they show that Lim can stand up against the likes of Tom or Stella in his ability to create fashion-forward shapes. Slightly pointed at the sides, and perfectly medium-sized we're adding these shades to our holiday wishlist--$225 in our wallet or no.
It's almost time to stop editorializing fall which we can hardly believe because it feels like the season has just begun--before it creeps up on us we must give a nod to Aminaka Wilmont. We met the designers last week at the Centre For Fashion Enterprise pop-up showroom and got to gush over their Spring offerings. That said, the experience would never have been so great had we not first learned about the brand through their Fall 08. Aminaka Wilmont, at first glance, looks like the kind of apocalyptic or gothic clothing that should be grouped with brands like Rick Owens and Rad Hourani--upon further inspection, though, you'll see a more glamorous and classic tone of voice and it is this combination that makes us really appreciate their aesthetic.
