The Selby Is Now in Colette's Place

Todd Selby is getting his first-ever solo show in Paris's Colette featuring watercolors, video instillations, and, most notably, his photographs of creatives in their homes or at work. While creating new images for the show in Paris, Colette's Sarah Lerfel challenged Selby to photograph 20 people in a little over a week. His latest subjects include Jacques Grange, stylist Lisa Nalin, and artist Xavier Veilhan.

The show at Colette runs March 30-May 2, but if you are in Paris this week, stop by The Selby's Window Apartment for advance signed copies of his book or to have a portrait taken or your favorite pet.

Maison Martin Margiela's First Fragrance Fittingly (Untitled)

Although Margiela left his Maison last December, he apparently had been personally involved with every aspect of creating the house's first fragrance-from the juice itself, to the bottle and upcoming advertising campaign.

The fragrance, a "woody green floral" with notes of incense, bitter orange, jasmine, and cedar, is held in a Baron & Baron co-designed green-tinted bottle which appropriately has the effect of being dipped in white paint. Paris' Collette will have the first batch on January 25, and those of you in the U.S. will have to wait until it hits Margiela stores in March.

We're guessing there's also a hint of patchouli oil in there somewhere, as Margiela's models were often doused with the stuff before hitting the runway.

Colette Heads to London for Pop Up Shop

Colette is popping up in East London at the Old Truman Brewery from November 26 - January 3!

Before you lucky Londoners get too excited, there is a catch. It's impossible to simply show up and shop at said pop-up holiday store. For the luxury of purchasing Colette-edited gifts one must first get on the guest list by either applying online-which British Vogue reports is not as easy as it sounds-or tracking down store sponsored Nissan Cube cars cruising through London and asking the driver for an invite (and hopefully a ride).

Those lucky enough to enter the store will find a number of Japanese inspired lifestyle products for sale (including the Nissan Cube car), live music, fashion presentations, and art installations.

Sounds lovely, but it might actually be easier to hop on the Eurostar and visit the real deal in Paris.

Julien David Launches Line Of Exclusives At Colette

Japanese designer Julien David just launched a range of silk foulard printed scarves exclusively at Colette. The scarves are made in the North of Japan with expert craftsmanship and the softest matte twills, they range from four to five hundred dollars approximately. For Colette, David gave up his colorful sneaker, trucks and personage prints which are lively without losing that coveted "forever" status. W ord is that he traveled to every major city to make sure his designs landed at the best stores in time for spring. So far, online, Colette is dominating. Karl Lagerfeld X Repetto To Launch At Colette Tomorrow

We're T-minus fifteen minutes from the anticipated Louboutin sale on Gilt Groupe, and, just to add another time sensitive shoe-indulgence into the mix, here's something for tomorrow. Karl Lagerfeld's capsule collection for Repetto, which came down the runway with his Spring 2009 range, will launch tomorrow on Colette. Available in white, black and navy in styles flat and high-heeled the shoes feature a detachable "tutu" around the ankle. The platform will go for around $550 and the flat sandal around $435. The shoes will also be sold at Bergdorf Goodman and American Rag.

Opening Ceremony Amps Up Their E-Commerce

Reorganized and fully-stocked, Opening Ceremony's e-commerce site is starting to get serious. Which designers have they chosen to represent on the site? Rodarte, Meadham Kirchhoff, Peter Pilotto, Hussein Chalayan, Jeremy Scott, and Japanese brand G.V.G.V. among others. These often editorialized international brands are all quite difficult to find online, particularly for American consumers. Much like Colette, Opening Ceremony's site is quirky and chaotic but if we've learned anything from the French retailer, it's that looks can deceiving. Thanks in part to their re-vamped site, Colette is now a heavy hitter in the world of fashion and retail--not just a hip boutique in Paris. With these coveted brands on Opening Ceremony's site, not to mention their plans to expand into Japan, we'd say Colette isn't alone in that effort.

As handsome as Proenza Schouler's now infamous PS1 handbag is, we were pleased to see forward-thinking Colette stocking other styles from the brand. After all, if there's anything the 80's taught us, it's not to pair strong shoulders with big handbags. Proenza Schouler might still be producing every variation of the PS1--even 14,000 dollar renderings--but they seem to know that smaller, more ornate styles might suit a specific customer as well.

Before or after you get deeply involved with the Carine Roitfeld videos you might want to check out two bizarre fashion items we happened upon today by chance--okay, by Twitter. Goyard, who created that controversial laptop case has also designed a custom trunk for Barbie's 50th Birthday. The trunk is now available at Colette for a whopping $3,752 approximately. Colette, for that matter, stocks all kinds of wild Barbie collectibles though most fall in adult fashion terrain and so don't amuse us quite as much. As for children's apparel, our pals at Fabsugar UK posted an interesting poll this afternoon: are metallic leggings for babies freaky or fabulous? Thank you, Topshop.

After seeing the Fall 2009 collection, top fashion editors are openly speculating the presence of Martin Margiela at the fashion house.

The highly anticipated Coco Avant Chanel trailer has been released--in French.

Topshop will open in New York "quietly" which, to us, can only mean police barricades and EMTs on hand.
