We received a tutorial on Takashi Murakami from Fashion Nation as part of an ongoing course on Japanese designers. We think her investment in talking about the East in the West is a wise one.
Sandra Backlund might not be an unknown designer but we agree with The Bread And Butter that her designs are positively mesmerizing.
Finally, this post was the sweetest in our Network today. Kingdom Of Style talked about receiving a gift and also the more meaningful merits of blogging.

The Coveted clued us in to designer Carin Wester and her feminine, trendy Fall and Spring offerings. Her designs remind us of the aesthetic of sweet designers like Karen Walker and Lover. Not a bad likeness at all.
Style...A Work In Progress talks about fashion-friendly bike helmets which, we do agree, are a necessity if you're going to ride!
Funny how this happens. Just yesterday we reported on our visit to the Marie Saeki showroom and our discovery of the line Burfitt, and today, Shiny Squirrel posted the Fall 08 look book from the line. It's gothic perfection, check it out.

Alisha Louise. Our bloggers love jewelry and, quite admirably, they also love scouting out independent designers from places other than New York. Alisha Louise does not sell her jewelry here, that is, she is not 'indie' in the sense that everyone from Houston to Canal and Bedford to Manhattan Ave is wearing her designs. She is from, well, Seattle and her jewelry is really gorgeous. Summer jewelry is a tricky thing, with sweat and breezy outfits, it sometimes just doesn't seem worth the effort, but when we read
Clothes Pin's post, we realized these branch-like pieces are quite perfect for Summer. Props to
our bloggers, most notably Clothes Pin, for keeping us in the loop with the
truly indie designers.
With
Earth Day approaching, Eco-Friendly designers are given extra consideration. Our network partner,
Clothes Pin,
reported on designer
Camilla Norrback and her range of eco-friendly clothing. For her Spring 08 collection, Norrback rummaged through clothing patterns from the 1980's and 90's to inspire a collection which balances the playfulness of adolescence and the need for a sophisticated aesthetic. The garments are considered 'eco-luxury', and, as Clothes Pin reports, "The cultivation, processing, and colouring of the fabric has as little impact on the environment as possible using natural alternatives to toxins and chemicals". Norrback's range of sweet silk jersey and knit clothing just proves that eco-friendly clothing no longer sacrifices its aesthetic in spite of its cause.
