The fashion world has been talking about wearing flats as of late--and it's already catching on. Net-a-Porter and Barneys both picked up a pair of jazz shoes by Christian Louboutin, master of the five inch platform, while Marc Jacobs, Jil Sander, Ralph Lauren, and Pour la Victoire are offering lace-up flats as well. Sure, it's not exactly a full-on "trend" just yet but we think Spring 2010 will change that.
It's been less than an hour since The Outnet launched into their Christian Louboutin sale and already, most of the inventory is gone. If women will buy anything online it's shoes--especially heavily discounted shoes with eponymous red soles. Above, three styles still available for purchase.
The first thing that struck us when we saw this exit as part of the Christopher Kane Spring 2009 runway show was how fresh and daring the color palette was. Chocolate brown, leopard print, pale pink, and burnt orange are not exactly a go-to combination when you're getting ready in the morning. In spirit of orange; a color we will be seeing often this Spring 09, here are some pieces in that range that we find alarmingly mix and matchable. We owe you some Halloween-inspired links and who better to provide them than our lovely Network Partners--have a happy and safe holiday, but, before you go read on.
A new book is coming out with lengthy designer interviews from the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Louboutin, and John Galliano--it's called "Influence" and it, well, happens to be co-authored by the Olsen twins. You can pre-order it on Amazon and watch a video interview with the authors, right here. It could read like the vortex of all tabloids.
It's no surprise that of the Arcadia Group titles, Topshop is doing well but Topman, we are happy to hear, is also growing steadily in spite of the economy. The men's section at Topshop is famed for being rather anti-climactic (not that everything from Zara to H&M isn't just the same) but perhaps with double digit sales growth, that will change.
Our favorite shoe style from the Spring 09 shows, as perfectly demonstrated by Phillip Lim and Christian Louboutin, is the ruffle front heel. We have become so enchanted by this style that we set about finding a similar look in the meantime. Prada, of course, paved the way with ruffled handbags and shoes this Fall 08. The small but lovely Loeffler Randall was thinking a step ahead of the curve with pleat-like ruffles on many of their shoes this season. Jeffrey Campbell, always right on trend, also put out some ruffle inspired footwear. Despite these more than adequate examples, we have to admit, we still can't wait for the real thing.
We will give you a hint, it involves drag queens, big wigs, crazy corsets and sky high Christian Louboutin heels. And you might remember them from a certain shoot we did that was positively cruel.
