The Romance of Futurism with Anne Valérie Hash
The overwhelming majority of futuristic interpretations of fashion veer towards the iconography of the apocalypse, yet Anne Valérie Hash's Spring 2009 collection was able to take the best of the genre and infuse it with her own subtle romance. Allusions to a kind of science fiction aesthetic came from a cool color story of gunmetal and medical white which was heightened by an hazy hologram like print. But the muted and soft focus of the textiles made for a dewy eyed beautiful future that transcended what could have been a very stark experience.
Much of that transcendence came from the feminine sheer graped gowns and tops (without the leering frustration we saw so much of in Milan) and the alluring Grecian draping. It was an inspiring view of futurism in a troubled time that could use a little optimistic romance.
