Sequins have been popular for a few seasons now but the trend has most definitely evolved. These days, in order to be fashionable, sequins really have to stand out. Whether it's a bright color, interesting pattern or statement-making texture, this season's sequins are all about unabashed optimism.
We don't know about you but we feel like summer only started last weekend. If you're not quite ready to delve into the new fall deliveries, there are plenty of sample sales and affordable summer clothing to indulge in. One style we've always loved is a seventies-inspired beach look. Slip on a pair of worn-in bell bottoms or a brightly printed tunic and you're 90% there. After that, just let your hair air dry, wear minimal makeup and add a few retro accessories.
There was a time when wearing a romper meant you were a risk-taker. Such is not the case now that the trend has permeated the market. This Summer, attempt to stand out from the crowd via one of our favorite two-tone rompers, above. They appear to be separates but are conveniently one-piece.
Velvet was a notable trend on the Fall 2009 men's and women's runways--and now it's time to shop the look. A little jacket is a great place to start and, luckily, there are plenty of options on shelves right now. From the strong shoulder jacket to the classic moto jacket, there are silhouettes in all varieties. Our favorites (and where to buy them) in the gallery below.
This season, quilting isn't reserved for iconic handbags and winter-weather jackets. A variety of sporty accessories and sexy cocktail wear has cropped up quilted and we think it might be the beginning of a trend. Quilting gives the appearance of texture and can go sporty or futuristic depending on the design. Our three favorites, above.
French prep retailer, A.P.C., launched into their seasonal sale this week with approximately 50% off summer merchandise. What's more they've organized the sale beautifully, making it a cinch to shop online. Our favorite pieces include a jet black cotton blazer (was $330 now $231), a pair of tan suede flat ankle boots (was $380 now $266) and a cotton sailor's cap (was $90 now $45). Although the plainness of A.P.C.'s clothing makes for a rather subdued shopping experience, it's a great place to pick up office-appropriate clothing and basics with a long shelf-life.

This summer it seems every brand is offering an ikat print of some variety. A print that can be found in many cultures, ikat is mainly recognizable for its blurred tie-dye-like lines. We love these prints rendered in bright colors or on unexpected accessories like ballerina flats and handbags. Our favorites, above.

A simple black or brown biker jacket is an instant classic and if you've already got one, feel free to indulge in other options. Motorcycle jackets in bright colors and interesting fabrics are a big hit this summer and can be found at a variety of price points. Choose one that suits your style (and budget) and pair it with another wardrobe staple like a men's t-shirt or a floral summer dress.

Pops of neon and candy colors are a sure hit this summer and if you prefer to interpret the trend conservatively, we recommend wearing a simple bright accessory. These three neon watches are all affordably priced and will add a special something to an everyday outfit. Bright color aside, we think these watches are also a great start to building a sporty but street-ready summer look.
