In the midst of the worst economic climate in decades, with consumers in revolt, it was almost a relief that Ms. Ullman did not shy away from a bit of a roast. It would have been disingenuous to declare anyone a real winner this year, though awards were handed out for best designers in several categories during what felt, at times, more like a pep rally than a glamorous event.
Our sister site, Fashionologie, has been steadily tracking the winners of tonight's CFDA Awards. They are...Rodarte for Womenswear Designer of the Year, Proenza Schouler for Accessory Designer of the Year, Ralph Lauren for the Popular Vote Award, Italo Zucchelli and Scott Sternberg tied for Menswear designer of the Year, Tim Hamilton for the Swarovski Award for Menswear, Alexander Wang for the Swarovski Award for Womenswear and Justin Giunta for the Swarovski Award for Accessories.
The MAC team was on hand this evening, recreating Fall 2009 makeup looks from Womenswear Designer of the Year nominees Narciso Rodriguez, Marc Jacobs and Rodarte. Led by makeup artist James Kaliardos, the small team had just over an hour dedicated to each set of girls. A couple of our backstage snapshots above.

It has been announced today that the CFDA has introduced a new award called, The Popular Vote Award, sponsored by L'Oreal. A public voting site, hosted by WWD, will allow participants to cast a vote for their favorite designer and the results will be announced during the CFDA Fashion Awards this June. Nominees for the award include previous CFDA award winners and nominees as well as approximately 100 other CFDA members who have shown their collections during New York Fashion Week. The polls are open from today through June 9th, click here to vote for your favorite designer.
